Signs leads r bad

I have an epicardial pacemaker and have worn out a few and have had it replaced. My leads r on the outside of the heart. I was wondering what signs do u have when leads go bad. My leads r about 18 years old. I just had a implant of a new pacemaker a year and a half ago. This is my 4th epicardial pacemaker and have been extremely happy where it is.

my pacemaker battery change

Thank you all for your support. I really feel relieved and when I go for my pacemaker pre-op and registration on Monday, I'll ask about the sedative they will use. I would like to be out. I'm on Coumadin and my cardiologist likes my INR between 2.5-3.5. It was 2.7 yesterday so they're keeping me on the same regimen of 7.5 mg 4 days and 5 mg on 3 days. . I won't take the percocet the night before. I usually have been taking it only at bedtime because of the 4 broken ribs which are healing....

I'm having a bettery replaced HELP

I'm going for pre-op and register on Monday and I'm due for the replacement on Wednesday 2/3. I had open heart surgery in 2005 giving me a new aortic, mitral, (Porcine) repaired tri-cusped and a double by-pass. ... I don't know what to expect as my leads are metronic (so I just found out), but my battery is BIOTRONIC and is only done at the Delray Hospital (in Delray Beach, Florida). I am nervous as I don't know what to expect. I have a radio frequency, dual channel pacemaker, paced at 80 and...

Battery

Does anyone know how big the battery in a one lone pacemaker is and how long it takes to inplant? I was told it was no big deal that I would go home the same day. It is a big deal to me just to be cut on again. Thanks for your help. Bonnie K. Murphy

Feeling so nauseous.

I had an emergency pacemaker fitted in October 2013 after having my first A fib attack in September. Apparently I had syncope which caused my heart to 'pause' for 13 seconds five times in one day. I have since gone on to have an ablation in December and my PM shows no incidence of A fib which is great. I am also off all the heart drugs to. So all should be well, but it's not. I have been feeling nauseous since I had my PM in October but put it down to the heart meds, flecanide and bisoprolol, bu...

Batteries getting low

I had a dual lead Medtronics PM implanted 9 years ago. I have never had any problems.

At my last check up they told me that the battery has between 10 months and 3 years left....
They also told me that over the years I have become more dependent on my PM. When they turned it down they could not find a natural beat even at 40 bpm. The technician wouldn't turn it any lower
My question: if you are very dependent, or even 100% dependent on the PM, is the replacement more diffic...

Low Impedance

Has anyone had very low impedance? I had my new pacemaker placed and my impedance levels dropped but they are stable at 110 and 130. From my understanding these are very low and that this is a insulation break within the leads.

We turned off my ventricular leads because it would always shock me in my pocket when it is paced. I only use that one 0.5% of the time but I'm concerned about my atrial lead and what could happen with such low impedance. I can always feel it shock me when i...

Using too much energy

I had a pacemaker put in about 6 weeks ago for AV block. No symptoms at all. The block was picked up on my annual physical. I am 70 years old, very active lifestyle so I was debating about whether I needed it. I opted to have it put in. Next question; MRI compatible or regular. I chose the MRI compatible. Now the issue: My check-up yesterday indicated I am using too much energy to pace when needed, meaning the lead may not be in far enough or the area it is in is not the right spot. The...

Scar Tissue

Hi All,

My son had his pacemaker when he was 8mths old year 2012 and went recently for a pacemaker interrogation 2013 and his battery estimate is now 6.5 years as compared to when he had his implant it was 9 years.

Ask the physican why his battery life has decrease at least 3 years so rapid from 2012-2013.He said that having scar tissues develop on his leads this will contribute to battery longevity.

Question;

Will this scar tissue be develop only afte...

Hi Everyone

Just thought I check in. I'm a 51 year old male living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that was born with an AV block. I've been through 3 PM's and scheduled for a new one on the 1/7/14. This time the are going to replace one of the leads due to bad battery life, I'm only getting 50% of what I should be, which I assume because its pacing at 5 volts. Hopefully all goes well and I report back with no issues. Any suggestions or life experience with lead replacement would be helpful as I've never been...

new Boston Scientific PM

I am scheduled to have a pacemaker replacement next Thursday. I received my Boston Scientific PM 6 years ago. I visited the surgeon on last Friday and she said that the replacement will be a new model just out last year. It is Wi Fi capable and will be larger and a more oval shape than my present model. I have looked for info on this on line and the advantages seem to be for tracking and keeping a record for the medical staff but I was wondering if any of you had experience or knowledge re th...

Pacemaker life

Went to a private medical facility for a lecture. I was not sure what to expect but it was organised by our local science club. It turned out to be all about pacemakers !! Wow what luck. The lecturer was very knowledgeable. He had worked for various companies involved in design and manufacture of pacemakers. He told me that one company was going to manufacture pacemakers that lasted 19 years but never put it on the market once they worked out the looses they would make on replacement business. P...

Keeps on Ticking

I'm coming up on the five year anniversary of my Boston Sci Cognis N119 CRT-D. Just wondering how long others have gone with this device prior to explant. I'm aware of the product advisory for premature battery depletion issued in August 2013 but everything seems OK. With my two prior devices interrogations showed plenty of juice only to have them start beeping shortly thereafter.

Thanks for any replies,
