I am about to turn 64 and found out that I have Afib. This led to wearing a heart monitor for a week which led to some Vtac rythyhms showing up. The Vtac rythyhms are associated with apical hypertropic cadiomyopathy. This led to an EP Study that showed I was at a low risk of Vtac but not "No" risk. My cardiologist says that I am in the gray area between him being able to say either I don't need an ICD or that I definitely do need an ICD. He says it...

I have been jogging for 45 years and received a pacemaker because my pulse would drop in the 20's at night. My max heart rate now is set at 130 and I am unable to jog a block without stopping. I would like my max set at 180, well that improve my jogging performance and is it safe?

I posted here a few years ago wondering if anyone trained BJJ with a pacemaker. I'd just gotten a PM and was devastated that I had to give BJJ up beacuse "no contact sports". I went three or so years without training because I was worried about what might happen. I recently started training again and so I'm posting this message so that anyone else in the same boat can contact me about my experience.
Basically: I thought about BJJ not daily but certainly weekly fo...

Background: Endurance runner that had a Boston Sci pm installed in July-2016. Had Bradycardia and hr refused to climb enough during exercise. Now getting back to running and have a frustration. After a couple minutes of running my hr goes to the max device setting (150 bpm) regardless of pace. It then stays around 148-150 throughout no matter if I speed up or slow down to a jog. Kind of sucks because my heart doesn't get a break and I tire...

After 21/2 months with my Medtronics CRT I'm a bit frustrated that I can't walk farther. I force myself to go to the gym daily and find that I can walk 1-2 tenths of a mile without stopping then have to stop for 45 seconds before walking another 1 tenth of a mile. I can repeat this up to 8 tenths of a mile but I had hoped that by now I could at least walk 1/2 a mile without stopping. This is a real problem for international travel. What have other members experiences been in see...

So I've been running since 1979, and had my PM installed last Thursday. MD's insist I will be able to run again, but I would like to hear from anyone who can describe what it's like when you first start running again with a PM. What did it feel like? Any particular fears you had? How are you doing now? Any reassurances would be very helpful to me. Thanks!

I got a garmin wrist-worn heart rate thing to see what my heart rate is doing when I am walking. I'm not sure if it works or not. Is this an accurate device? Has anyone used these?
Also, I cannot get the equipment at the gym to read my heart rate at all. Is my pacemaker interfering somehow? I wonder if this is just me not doing something right, or does it have anything at all to do with the pacemaker?

Hi,
Since I had a Boston Scientific CRT-D inserted, Oct 2015, my condition has deteriorated precipitously. In April, I'm told, I had a heart attack - tachycardic- 197bpm? From April to July I did rehab exercises with good BP readings and pulse rates 52 to 134 bpm. Since then I've become totally exercise intolerant with a pulse 'fixed' at 71 -72 bpm and breathless after one or two minutes down from 45 - 50 minutes continuous excercise with varying resista...

I have what some may consider an odd question. Has anyone in the club got into drag racing since they've had their pacemaker?
I've had a pacemaker for 25 years now. I got my first one when I was 5. I'm not one to sit on the sidelines and watch life pass by. I have an interest in drag racing and am looking to connect with anyone who has a pm and still enjoys the hobby. My main question would be, has anyone taken the nhra license medical?

It has been 6 months since I had a pacemaker for AV block. I was an endurance triathlete before my pacemaker and I have returned to my passion in life to its full extent once more. I am wondering if there are any triathletes on this forum who I can connect with? I am also wondering if anyone knows of any research articles regarding this sport and pacemakers? I love being able to race again but not at the risk of my health long term. Thank you in advance.

10 days out and back to exercising. Feeling good except short of breath on stairs so that I have to stop after about 15 steps. Walking about 15 min. I was walking several miles before pm and bounding up stairs.
Pm was needed due to fainting. No muscle disease. All diagnostics such as echo, X-ray were normal a week ago.
Is this just being out of shape?

I use to be able to walk 3 miles prior to my pacemaker implant. Now I couldn't walk a half mile or I will get shocked to death.I am referring to the built in defibrillator. Has anyone else experienced this draw back?

I just got an upgrade to a defibrillator (had a pacemaker for 5 years) last Wednesday. I would like to go for a walk but don't know if it's too early to do a small amount of exercise. Any thoughts on this? It's been 4 days since my procedure was done.

Hi gang! My docs say more exercise, so I've been getting out for a nice brisk 20 to 30-minute walk more often. Today it was quite cold outside and, as soon as I came in to where it was warm, I felt light-headed and somewhat nauseated. Could barely get my boots and coat off before having to sit down. Took my BP and pulse which were 126/80 and 55. Thought that was odd so did the other arm, which showed 126/86 and 56. I sat for a few minutes, tho...

Hi All,
Merry Christmas to you all!
I am determined to get fit again next year and have signed up to a 6km Tough Mudder style obstacle Course Race at the end of February. This will be 4 months post insertion of pacemaker for SSS. My husband is now worrying that this is too soon and I should have waited a bit longer. Has anyone else done one of these and are there any obstacles I need to be wary of as my pacemaker is pretty near the surface?
I have to say I can't wa...

I contacted my Dr to see if I can use my Garmin Vivo fit wrist tracker, he said to contact the company. They said it should be no problem but check with my Dr first!!! What????
So does anyone out there have an idea if I can use this thing with my Pacemaker! I would like to use it again. Feel lost without it. ( not that I am moving much yet only 6 days out) But, would like to track sleep at least! Thanks in advance!

Hi all! Had a treadmill stress test and PM check-up today, complete with two Medtronic reps and my cardiology nurse, because I'm getting short of breath, naseous and even slightly faint from very little exertion. For instance, one day I walked four blocks on even ground, at a very leisurely stroll, only to find myself totally short of breath, bending over, feeling nauseated. Today I couldn't go beyond 135 heart rate on the treadmill, started feeling the usual faintne...
