New lead already

I had my pacemaker implant done on last Monday, October 8. As I was in recovery, I could feel small shocks around the area just south of my pacemaker. None of the staff thought anything of it as I would report it to them. So, all of last week, I could feel these shocks from time to time. Some of them were small and just annoying while others made my whole pectoral bounce. The pulses were either several in a row, or just an individual one.
My pacemaker only kicks in when I need it. (sorry,...

Lead displacement at first check of pacemaker

Oh dear,

I am upset as all was going well, wound disappearing more each day, then I had my first check yesterday after pacemaker was implanted 5 weeks ago and one of the leads has unhooked itself!

They knew this because some reading was very high compared to first check at time of implant, which would run down battery too quickly.

Doc wants to cut me up again and sort it :-(

I thought I was careful day and night, but maybe not careful enough! (difficul...

Pm battery didn't last as expected

Hi! I wonder if anybody is having the same problem like me. I have a medtronic dual pm implanted back in Jan 2007 due to a complete heart block. I was told then that the battery would last 10 years. Then on Oct 11 i went for a check up and my cardiologist said the battery needs to be changed ... Soon. The battery warning light came on last week of July. He saidbwhen that warning comes on, the battery needs to be changed within 3 months. So it bothered me that my cardiologist waited on the last m...

Lead moved

Well this is going to be long, so here goes:  I had my PM installed June 10-12 as my bpm was down to 15 and would stop for 5 seconds and start again when I returned home after 2 days in hospital. I was dizzy and felt nauseous; this never changed and I lost 20 lbs.  The doctor said there was nothing wrong with the PM so it must be some other problem.  The 6th of September I started getting shocks in my diaghram causing it to jump every time my heart...

Hiccups pacemaker

When my pacemaker was first put in, the left lead moved to my diaphram and had hiccups??? in lower left side(under rib cage). I guess they were hiccups, not the regular kind. Anyway, they shut my left lead off and I continued in a-fib. Was cleared from doctor in a month. After 5 months, I went on a trip to my hometown and was in a fib the whole time. Not sure of the medical there (boonies) I suffered it out til I got home. My abdomen was swollen like I was 7 months pregnant. After the first 7 da...

Life after pacemaker removal

Hi everyone, I am a 25 year old female who just had a pacer placed 3 months ago now for bradycardia after having had mono and not eating properly for a couple months (my heart rate was dipping into the low 30s for three days). The pacemaker however while resolving the bradycardia, did nothing to make me feel better and in fact I have slept horribly and been uncomfortable for the past three months and I actually developed additional problems after the pacemaker was placed (orthostatic hypotensi...

Pacemaker on the left or right side?

Hi!

I had some pacemaker settings adjusted at my cardio's office yesterday, and this time the nurse asked me whether I had my pacer on the right or wrong side... So, I asked what's the "wrong" side, and she said that's the left. I was a bit puzzled. Told her that I have it on the left side, also because I'm right-handed. She replied that this has nothing to do with right- or left-handed, and that the right side is the better implant side. Well - everyone I know has his/her pacemaker o...

Pain near the left arm and Fingers

Hi,
I have been implanted with pace maker in the year 2002. For the past one month, i am getting pain near the leads of the pacemaker when i jog for long. Recently, i am also experiencing pain in the left arm and fingers. Other than that, i am not having any trouble in doing any of my activities nor experiencing any giddiness.
Can you please let me know if there are any implications with the jogging. I used to gym/swim/jog without any problems earlier.

Sincere thanks

thank you grateful heart. im sure that nerves are playing a big part in my recovery. havent had panic attacks for years and now the feelings are creeping back. have been told the anti biotics can cause a cramping and sore stomach too. i did have the area made numb but i asked for some sort of sedation to calm me because i was shaking and the AF started half way through the procedure and i had to fight very hard to keep myself relaxed and in somesort of calm. it may deal with the pain but sti...

Defective Battery

I had my Biotronik Model EVIA DR-T implanted under emergency conditions on July 5, 2012. Had the unit checked by my cardiologist and Biotronik rep 10 days later - all was fine. Have had several other doctor visits since then all confirming heartrate of 60 - as recently as 9/5. On 9/21 during a regular 3 month check up with my pulmonary doctor, they informed me my heartrate was 36 and was rushed to the ER where I was again seen by my cardiologist and the same pacer mfgr rep. He could NOT get a...

Medtronic Manual - Projected Life

Hello,

Am PM dependent since 1995. Had replacement done in 2007 and 2011. The last one caused site infection. This led me to a long ordeal of explantation, lead extraction through sternotomy and finally new PM implantation at the other shoulder site. Procedure concluded last week. Now, am taking more than passing interests in the settings and the workings of the device so that I am more informed.

My current device is Medtronic Advisa MRI. While I was going through the man...

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
