ICD Support While Running

I am 33 years old and back in March I went into sudden cardiac arrest. I still do not have a concrete diagnosis as why this happened to me. I was saved by CPR and and AED. Previous to my arrest, I was very active- working out 5-6 days a week. I am back running again- getting up to 2 miles a day and feeling great. The only issue is that I am very small (under 120 lbs) and the weight/movement of my debrillator can be bothersome when running. Can anyone suggest any sort of support sleeve or...

Chest pain and horse riding

Hi all. Looking for some advice please. Medtronic PPM implanted late March2017. After some problems re rate settings, things are getting better. However, I ride horses, dressage, which people think you just sit and do very little but actually it is extremely physical. With my upper limit set at 170 I'm finding I'm not struggling with energy levels but I am having pretty bad pain in the middle of the sternum, between  the shoulder blades and radiating to pacemaker si...

Exercise Machine Heart Rate Sensors

Thinking of getting an elliptical cross trainer for winter fitness and wondering if those hand sensors that some exercise machines have to monitor heart rate are safe to use with a pacemaker.

Cycling 60 mile sportive

Today I completed 60 miles since my PM was inserted for low heart rate march 2016. Tough hilly course and did it in 4 hours so really pleased and I feel fine. Only stopped once for coffee and snacks. I also endured since my PM a vestibular problem which made me spaced out and this has also improved as I started to believe more in myself and my bodies abilities to recover. American Heidi Dohse paced 100 per cent an an athlete inspired me too for my training. Using mindfulness and law of a...

Restrictions?

I just got my  PM and am wondering what I should never do.  Obviously tackle football and boxing  should be avoided but at 70 I'm not interested in those sports.   Are some yoga stretches  hazardous. What about freestyle swimming?  Are there exercises that might dislodge the electrodes?  Doctors are conservative when asked these sort of questions.  I'm interested hearing from longtime pacemaker people who are very active...

Another Cross Fitter in the house!

So, it was another "riding out the hurricane" at work experience....except this time was, by far, the most stressful event I have ever had at the hospital. I was there 5 days/4nights waiting for relief to make it in...and I was in charge. I began having my SSS symptoms the end of the 5th day that resulted in me fainting and being rushed to the ER.  I was having 8 second pauses, received multiple doses of atropine and now have a PM. So, now that I have accepted the fact tha...

Motorcycle racing Harescrambles-enduro's upper limit setting

At 57 I am still riding and racing dirt bikes. I know... it is a risky activity, but I an still very competitive at my age, and always a top 5 guy even at the Nationals.

I have struggled a bit on my energy side, and feel like my body runs out of gas before it should. I an a fit guy and a 2 hour race used to be no problem. Now it seams like I go from race mode to I wish it was over mode a hour in.  I am thinking my heart rate just does not get high enough.

I have a 3 lead Bost...

What is the best exercise for my specific condition?

I am 28 and I want to do some form of exercise but I find myself a bit more limited than I would like to be. With Complete 3rd Degree Heart Block and a pacemaker, how much exercise should I get per day? And is walking alright for that? I can't over or under exert myself. I've also heard of many people going vegan for their hearts but I honestly think just eliminating dairy and red meat is the surefire way to have a healthier diet. Any responses would be appreciated if they're sent...

PC

Other than a power saw and a jackhammer  what other things can't I do?  I am 75 female and my pm is set on 81.  I am visiting my 13 year old grandson in DC and I know he has big activities planned.  Is there some limit on what I can't do or just let my body tell me?  I know there will be lots of swimming and walking.  Please advise.  At home I do big time yard work and that seems ok.  Thanks for responding  Sarchie

Inspirational athletes

Enjoying the world athletics championships in London Uk and it's so inspirational. We inspire and support each other here on this forum but it would be great to hear from athletes who compete that have PM if there are any out there. So many of us have our own personal achievement when it comes to sports and exercise so let's inspire and hear your story.

workouts

Actually feel good work out most of the time, however I'm using my PM 74% of the time now , bp good, bpm w/ meds very good.

Last year it was 60% of the time bottom 24% top, Bp good, bpm 75 which is good.

I'm a fairly healthy 75yr old considering , perhaps a silly question what does a guy like me do and what should I expect will happen in the future. All indications are I will continue to use my PM more and more as I get older.

Thank you.

Running

Hi.

I am new to this.  I am a 62 yo male who has run just about all my life.  For the past several year I have been having fatigue in the afternoons, falling asleep easily while driving, etc.  I always had a low heart rate and attributed it to my running.  As the fatigue became worse, and all other causes were ruled out, it was decided my bradycardia was more than just "runner's heart" but SSS, and my cardiologist suggested a pacemaker.  That was t...

Pacemaker Not Working?

Geez; it's comforting to know I'm not the only athlete having issues with their pacemaker!

I'm a life long cyclist diagnosed with an A/V block last year. The pacemaker was implanted in November, and has been adjusted twice, but I continue to have these catastrophic meltdowns within an hour of riding, whereas before I'd ride 10 hours and the only pain would be in my butt!. As others have complained, it feels like my muscles are being starved for oxygen as I'm not brea...

Puls gets to maximum when jogging?

Hi.

I have a problem with my new pacemaker. Medtronic EN1DR01 Ensura DR MRI. When running slow like 6 min per/km the heartrate goes up to maximum, 175 bpm. When runnng intervalls the same 175 bpm, but in this case its natural. When a swim and cycling there is no problem the pulse is equal to 130 bpm. The problem is when running slow and walking, the puls goes up to maximum direct. The pacemaker nurse has did a lot of adjustments and no luck. She thinks the problem ar...

exercise capability reduced

Hi

i had a pacemaker implanted a year ago for sick sinus syndrome.  Before my pacemaker I did Boot camp 3 times a week and walked loads not really aware I had a heart problem.

But now a year after having a pacemaker I can't exercise anywhere near like I used to without getting short of breath.  Surely I should be able to do more!   Any advice welcome

Shooting skeet

I recently had my pacemaker installed and will be taking it easy for 6 weeks.  I am a left handed shotgun shooter and think maybe my shooting days are over since the butt of the gun will be very close to the pacemaker.  Anyone with any experience on this?  Thanks.

tennis

Will have a pasemaker implant in two weeks. My resting heart ate iss 34 BPM. My age 86. What rate should the pacemaker be programmed. e.g. 60. My goal is to continue playing tennis. Should I be concerned about chronotropic competence or is the issue moot?

Getting back to normal

I had a PM fitted 2 weeks ago, for sinus bradycardia (SSS) and right bundle branch block. I'm 49 and fairly fit (cycling, squash, football, running etc), and would be interested to hear about how other people have found getting back to the same level of activity, and any advice on how to get the PM calibrated right (it's a Boston Scientific Accolade, two lead, rate responsive, though RR not switched on yet). I've never used a heart rate monitor for cycling before, but is...
