I have only a pacemaker but noticed this ad in the red lined box at the middle top of the message pages about a new study by Boston Scientific. This is NOT a testimonial from me, only an interest because the doctor featured in the video when clicking on that site is the director of the heart rhythm dept. at the University of Chicago and my doctor for the last three years. He installed my pacemaker on Feb. 4, 2014 and I am part of the Boston Scientific Samurai study for MRI compatible pacema...

EMP attack
I have just finished reading "A nation forsaken" by Michael Maloof. The gist of the book is that its not if but when an EMP attack will come. On page 65, he states "While the actual pulse of electrons or microwaves has little or no effect on the human body, electronic circuitry installed inside the body does not fare well when subjected to high energy microwaves. The devices could heat up very quickly, turning surrounding tissue and blood into steam, searing the body at the site of the device...

I have not been able to use my Merlin transmitter from
Barbados and need to know how to use the internet to relay the readings. Anyone have any suggestions?
Zapper had a post on 2/21/14 with some ideas for an inexpensive hookup with a broadband kit using off the shelf router and a USB adapter. He was going to the EU for work and I wonder if the setup worked in Germany.
Any communication on this will be appreciated before I invest in a router and adapter.
icd/pacemaker and my cdl
I can not find much on this problem. I know you can now apply for a waiver but that is only half the problem. I now have a waiver for vision and can not find out if you are allowed two waivers at the same time. I know in the past it wasn't possible, but the FMCSA are changing regulations pertaining to this, and wondering if anybody has any answers.
Pre PM advice
Dear Forum,
I am 43 years old male. I had a near death experience three years ago when I was taken to hospital while I was facing a massive heart attack. I was lucky and survived that terrible attack. I was treated with a stent into the main artery. Naturaly, some part of my heart got damaged due to this incident.
Later on (2 months post incident), my echo test results were coming around 35% which means my heart was not fully functional. (For a normal healthy person, the e...

Just a hello from a new member of the club!
Hello everyone! I am new here. I have something called Brugada's syndrome. I was diagnosed with it last august and then 6 days later I had an ICD put in. My heart had stopped a total of 3 times before the ICD was put in. I am grateful to be alive and am happy. I have a lot of anxiety over this ICD, though. I'm happy there are things like this though to talk to others with the same issue. Glad to be a part of this group!
Medronic Viva XT CRT-D Issues
Hello, is there anyone else out there who's received the Medtronic Viva XT CRT-D? This is my fifth device, 2nd CRT-D, and my first "lead revision."
The lead revision was necessary because that tricky LV lead was not previously placed in an optimal spot, due to vessels being too small to allow the cath tip down into the vessel as far as they wanted. The result was that it zapped the battery at only two years because it took more energy to capture that left ventricle.
I am a...
Will falling dislodge a CRT-D?
It's been 10 mos. since my husband's cardiac arrest & subsequent bi-valve defibrillator was inserted. He's fallen 5 times since then, as his balance is not what it was. So far no problems, but what if he lands on the unit? Will it dislodge it or hurt it? I'm worried he'll fall again when I'm not home. Thanks!
Battery Life
I have had my ICD for a little over 5 years. At my interrogation last week, I was told the battery is at 2.98. At 2.60 it will need to be changed. Does anyone have any idea of how long this might be. The EP had no idea, just guesses. I pace minimally and I have never been shocked. Thank you for your help.
Low pulse rate
I had a St Jude ICD implanted in 2009. Lately I have been experiencing intermittent episodes of a very irregular pulse rate in the low 40's Could this mean the unit is not working properly?
Chainsaw
Anyone with a ST. Jude's ICD use a chain saw? I called the tech line and they are not sure. Thanks.
Life Insurance
Question to all of you experts out there: I am getting out of the Military and losing my life insurance policy. I went to USAA today and they won insure me due to my ICD, the military's version of our current life insurance policy balloons to 1800 a month at 75 for 400K of term. I was wondering, what options do we have in regards to life insurance for people with an ICD? A recommendations on companies?

Better an ICD than dental surgery
Hi. Just had a wisdom tooth out, give me PCI procedures - 5 stents total and a Medtronic CRT-D anyday! Due for 6 month check soon, all going well. At 62 and still working that's OK with me!
Looking back it is surprising how quickly one adapts to having a PM as a friend. At 6 months According to the literature my heart will have positively remodelled about as much as it will, though so far my recovery from a serious anterior MI 7 years ago still continues. I was told I would not b...
3 weeks

How do technicians set defibulator
Can anyone out there who has a CRT-D explain a bit about what is paced. Is it the atrail and both ventricles? Also do the technicians set your pulse and high end heart rate so when you run or hike that your hr doesn't go over. I am not familiar with what is happening and need more info. Thanks. The Tec doesn't give out info and my EP said not to worry and isn't explaining much.
