Thankyou for your replies. This is my first pacemaker and believe it or not I have had it in 29 years. It is due for changing, I am scared they dont know if I will need a new lead aswell.I wonder if any of the leads will be any good after all those years.I had it put in because I had a fast pulse, then after 5 years it went slow and missed beats.I only had bradycardia for a week then they put the pacemaker in . Sometimes I wonder if I ever really needed one.I have probably just been using one lea...

My pacemaker was implanted in October 2015, so fairly new. I was told it would be the size of a quarter but it is as big as the palm of my hand. I have the PM because my heart was "pausing" for 6-7 seconds at a time when I was sleeping. During the day it would only be for 1-2 seconds but it has dome the short pauses all my life.
When I sleep, the PM seems to get pushed away from my shoulder so the muscle around it is always sore. But my real problem is pin prick pain at the points on th...

Hi all,
I am 29 going on 30 who will need my old leads to be removed since I've had some really old leads in me since the age of 5.
My new doctor who just replaced my pacemaker 2 weeks ago said there are leads in there that are no longer in use and would need to be removed due to having 5 leads in me and have reached my max.
This is or was my 4th surgery, and he is telling me that he has removed leads before but that there is a 50/50 chance...?? I mean how sca...

St Jude ICD Had battery check in early February, third week in February ICD made a high speed vibrating noise. Went to doctor to have battery checked found out battery needs to be replaced within the next four weeks. No know way to measure the length of battery to within a month.Battery use can very depends on person and if the defibrillator is used and how often the person depends on pacemaker, activity, readout storage is also a contribulating, factor that can attribute to usage

A quick question - I had a crt-d put in 8 days ago and my left arm has felt achy each day. In the last 3 days though my left arm changes colour to a dusky red colour as well as ache. Will this likely settle down or should I report it to the pacing clinic first thing next week?

Hi Everyone,
I was puzzled when I did not locate a thread regarding pain medication after battery replacement.
I had my battery replacement yesterday and was directed to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for discomfort.
*I was disappointed that they did not prescribe a day or two of Vicodin (as needed for postop pain.)
(Vicodin was just an example of a milder prescription pain medication.)
This was not offered as an option instead d...

I checked into the hospital on New Year's Eve for a pacemaker atrial lead replacement & the EKG revealed I was back in AFib (I was cardioverted in early December and I'm 5½ months post-OHS). So I had an atrial ablation right before my "little zipper" incision was reopened (for a 3rd time) for the atrial PM lead replacement. The surgeon said he "found a home" for the lead and, hopefully, it'll stay put since this is the 3rd atrial lead I've had in 13 months.
My pacemaker site is very...

Hello Im new to the website.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with their pacemaker running out faster than it use to. I am on my 3rd pacemaker and in the past they have last 5-7 years. my last PM was put in two years ago. this was supposed to be a pacemaker change but I ended up waking up with to find they had opened my entire chest as well ( there were complications). now my cardiologist is saying the battery life says 3-9 months more. so now I think my new normal might be every 2...

A little history:
Inappropriate sinus tach due to lymph node pushing heart to side lead to 2nd ° heart block. Heart block lead to PM, allowing for two ablations to my sinus node. Pace 90% in atrium and only 0.8% in ventricular. Have had bad lead in lower chamber for last 4-5 years, impedance getting worse. Looking at new leads and generator in next 6 months. My EP is leaving it up to me to decide which of three options I want.
(1) leave bad lead and not insert new as rarely u...

Thank you so much for your comments! I do appreciate your help so much! I am not able to write often due to lupus lack of energy and overwhelming work keeping up with my responsibilities.
I received the results from my electrophysiologist and I can't understand anything! Here they go:
Since 9/14/15 I have had
1 AMS event
431 VHR events
133 PMT events
11,057 noise reversion events.
Does anyone know what all this means?
Thank you so much again!

I understand the x-ray checks the leads... cannot see how it can mean anything with the battery which is already known to be replaced by next month. As Friday is a little over two months of the approximately three months left on the life of the battery.
The cardiologist only said that the battery is running low/battery leads to be changed in about three months in early November.. nothing about the leads possibly having problems.
What does anyone have to say about this i...

I had my second pacemaker implanted 4 months ago after having my previous pacemaker for 13 years! The person who 'sewed me up' was tugging and pulling at the stitches and banging and rubbing blood away whilst doing so. I was extremely bruised afterwards and the scar got infected and is still not right now. I am still experiencing discomfort. My cardiologist half heartedly offered to replace it....because he said it was loose. It sticks out sideways when I lay on my side and the scar looks d...

Hello,
Just thought I would pass on my experience of End Of Life (EOL) symptoms.
I had a dual chamber IPG for Mobitz type 2.
After nearly ten years it was close to replacement time and was being monitored at 12-week intervals which were to go to 8-week.
I had been starting to get tell-tale missing beats etc., but on 6th Jan 2016, sitting quietly at the computer, my pectoral muscle and left arm went into spasm, in synchronisation with the heartbeat. This was strong and did not...

Received my Medtronic bi- ventricular PM / Defibrillator on 12-16-15. Went back for programming check 2 weeks ago and 1 week ago as I was feeling "thumps" about 90% of the time in chest wall in left side. Medtronic rep explained that the tip of my left lead was not in a good spot and that each of my 3 leads can be programmed in 4 different places. He also told me that my left lead is in a vein near my diaphragm running above it. He attempted to reprogram the left lead in all 16 of the possibl...

I am new to this club!
I had Biotronik pacemaker installed in Jan of 2014. I feel much better with more energy. My wife even said she could not keep up with me. I am only 50 years old. How amazing the technology works with the monitor I have in my bedroom...I got a phone call from DR office telling me I needed to go for chest xray as they suspected the wires got loose from PM. Got the news from doctor yesterday that I need to have a surgery to replace the wires in few weeks. I have not fe...
