Cracked leads and shock

Hi, everyone!
Life has not been easy since I take care of my beloved husband of 56 years: he is 84 and in poor health, and I'm 76! The leads in my pacemaker are cracked and my electro physiologist says he doesn't know where the crack is. He says there is lots of "noise" and they will have to be replaced. He is trying to stretch the time as long as possible to be covered by Medicare. My first lead placement 14 years ago led to my heart being pierced, code blue, ICU for one week, hospital sta...

dislodging a lead

I have had my pacemaker for 1 week. I was told not to lift my left arm above my head. Last night in my sleep I not only lifted my left arm above my but I stretched. That woke me up.My question is, How would I know if I dislodged a lead?

boston scientific model s606

Does anyone have this model that has a minute ventilation sensor? I was hoping this sensor would help with my breathing when I walk, go to the gym, etc. It did not and actually caused more complications.

i would be interested in others' experiences.

Battery replacement

I was impnated with Vitatron make PM in July-2005. I am being reviewed by Vitatron representative every 6 months since last 5 years.
On the last review they have remarked" Battery Ageing"
What does it mean? Should I go for immediate replacement or can wait till Feb 2016 which has been scheduled by the Vitatron team

Medical Care

We, in Canada, have a two tier medical system. People come from all over the world to get surgery in the very hospital that has me on a waiting list for urgent replacement of Pacemaker due to recall.

After ten days of knowing that imminent death is a possibility for myself, my health is deteriorating from the related stress.

I would be more than happy to give them a 'donation' to move this to now! I do not have that option.

Does the name Eugene Melnyk rin...

Can weird twitching be due to bad lead?

I have an atrial lead that has the impedance going up. Won't know for a few months until my batterie dies if the lead is bad, or if it's just a loose connection. Sometimes, I get a radiating twitching sensation that goes down my left side, into my crotch area. Sometimes, I think my cell phone is in my left pocket, but it isn't there. It happens a lot while I'm driving as well. Can this be from a bad electrode? Where is it common for these sensations to radiate, or perhaps it's something else? Mu...

Fractured lead

I had icd implanted in 2003, then had a new one implanted 5 months later. My current icd implanted in 2010. In 2012 I talked to my rhythm doctor about feeling"mini shocks". He said everything was fine and it wasn't my icd. He did say, however, I had a fractured atrial lead. I had also felt like my icd was typing on its side. I was told that is impossible. Three years later I still feel like I am getting shocks. Could that be from the fractured lead? My doctor doesn't want to do anything until t...

Could the procedure possibly be sooner; or are the other two vibrations be between today and the next six weeks and the date remain the same?

getting a new battery

Hi all
I'm going to need a new battery soon . It will be my 3rd. in 11 years. One of my leads isn't working right so the battery fails sooner than most.
My question is , do you think a low battery also makes you feel run down too?

Sound & frequency when battery is low

Can you describe the sound you hear when your ICD power is getting low and how often you hear it? Once before when my monitor had been connected improperly by a technician, I heard a strange beeping and thought it was coming from my telephone. But now I can't remember how often I heard it and exactly how it sounded. I know mine is nearing the end stage (last few months) but am not sure that's what I heard a few minutes ago. Obviously I shouldn't panic because I know it gives you ample time when...

lead resistance question

Howdy -

My batterie is getting low, and I'm having my PM replaced early next year. A complicating problem is my atrial lead seems to have too much resistance. My Doc thinks it could be a loose connection at the PM, or the lead has gone bad. I've had two ablations over the last three years. I'm curious if it could have been nicked. ALSO: if the lead is bad, but still working, would it be better to just keep using it and see what happens? It would be nice to have the old one removed,...

Ventricular Lead - Impedence Increasing

During my recent pacemaker checkup, the technician observed that the impedence of the ventricular lead has increased from 1220 ohms (11-23-2014) to 1550 ohms (11-18-2015). The impedence was 730 ohms in 2013. The technician thinks that the increasing impedence means that lead may be going bad and wants to monitor it every 3 mos.

My question: 1) Is this something I need to be concerned about? 2) How common is this problem? 3) Is this a problem with the particular brand of pacemaker...

65 BPM fixed rate

I notice that I was easily getting winded with moderate physical activity, walking up a 10% hill at 6000 ft elevation, I felt hard heart beats, so I check my pulse, it was 65 BPM. It was very low for my activity, I would expect something in the 90 to 120 BPM range. I confirmed it later that day when roller skating, by increasing my speed to increase my heart rate, 65 BPM three test in a row of rest and speed. I am two weeks from a battery/generator change out. I was having increasing resistance...

Upcoming surgery

I have a question. In the next couple of weeks I'm having a new pacemaker implanted. I am totally dependent on my pacemaker. My question is when they disconnect the old one to put in the new one, for a while I will have no help to keep my heart beating. Even the fastest hands can't be that fast.

Anyone else ever have this procedure, please advise.

Thanks

Misplaced Leads?

Has anyone ever heard of a misplaced lead? I had my leads and unit changed about 2 months ago and I've had problems ever since. My EP doc says that the lead is too close to the chest wall muscles and is stimulating those as well as pacing my heart. It's not painful but I definitely can't continue to live with it. Essentially, I can feel every single beat of my heart because my muscles are twitching. It's starting to make me crazy.

I have surgery scheduled again for December which...

Backup mode

I am 79 years old. I have had a pacemaker for almost 20 years. In my younger days, I had two replacements without difficulty. On Sept 17th, I visited my cardiologist. He said that I had two years on my pacemaker. I am 100 dependent. In less that a month, I was in backup mode and didn't know it, In all my visits I was never told about backup mode. I wasted three weeks before finally realizing it was my pacemaker. I was told that you have 3 months on on backup. It will be two more weeks before I g...

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
