Exercise and physiology

Hi guys,

I am a new member and just had a pacemaker fitted 5-6 months ago. I am 26 and from England...just thought I would give everyone a bit of background information.

My physiologist said to me that exercise is fine but as I have congenital heart disease and am young the long-term effects are unknown as the pacemaker will be doing a lot of the work.

I am back into running and exercising which is awesome and am loving running without feeling all breathless and w...

8 year old with pacemaker

Hi, my eight year old son will be having pacemaker surgery this spring.  I am a newvous wreck, but I have been assured that he will be able to resume his daily active lifestyle once he is fully recovered.  He plays competive hockey and many different sports at school, and has 2 equally active brothers at home.  I am in the process of purchasing him a vital beat shirt and guard for him to wear as well...any other moms of active children have a pacemaker?...were they indeed able...

Heart Rate While Working OUt

Hello:

I am new to the club so please excuse the question if it has already been covered. I am 63, had a dual lead pacemaker implanted in October 2016 and Aortic valve replaced in 2012.. SInce the implant I find I can not achieve peak heart levels while working out like I did prior to implant. The pacer is  set at 60 BPM and paces me roughly 50% of the time. Prior to implant I could achieve 120-130HR while doing aggresive works outs. Now I am lucky to get to 105 BPM. The other...

Sore Shoulder

Hello Pacer friends...

its weird how I feel like no one understands or will be able to relate to this question but possibly one of you.

I have a dual chamber pacemaker placed for complete heart block (Aug 2016).  I really haven’t had any issues so far.  I’ve been working out almost every day, trying to get in shape for a wedding this Spring and have been doing lots of short workouts.  They’re only about 30 minutes per day... either upper bod...

Fainting during exercise

Hi everybody, my name is Luke, I have found this website asI have been told by nurses that I may need a pacemaker!

I'm a 22 YO male who before having episodes of passing out, was supposed to be professional cricketer.

Around 2-3 years ago I started getting light headed during sports after that during sex I actually passed out, how embarrasing.. I know.

However I hav a Loop recorder atm I was recently playing 5 aside footie the other day and once again p...

Chest pain

Hi

I had a micra (leadless pace maker) fitted 3 months ago. I've been back at the gym exercising for a few weeks now but done a difficult class this morning with a lot of jumping around. For the last hour or so I've been getting chest pains on and off, nothing to painful, and what I think are palpataions and a lump feeling in my throat and a warm feeling in my chest.

Any advice? Can these pacemakers move around?

Thanks

Figure/Bodybuilding with a pacemaker

HI Everyone!

I just found this site trying to google find my answer and it is awesome! so happy to have joined.

My question is regarding weight lifting- I am in prep for my first figure competition. I had my device implanted April 2017 I have a single lead atrial pacer. I have always been very active and involved in the gym and have had discussions with my Doc when I first got the device about weight lifting. She had told me to avoid anything over head (ie- lat pulldowns, pu...

New Member - Exercise Question

Hi everyone,  I just joined today, I have an ICD after a sudden cardiac arrest last June (6/17) at the age of 45. They could never duplicate anything and said I have the heart of a 20 year old and said I had a ventricular arrhythmia due to very high stress at the time.

I still have a good amount of anxiety and fear just wrapping my mind around everything that happened and its holding me back from moving forward as I'd like.  I've lost about 40lbs but I want...

Minute Ventilation (MV) feature defeated by arm movement

I have had the Boston Scientific Accolade for a year now. After at least 20 pacer sessions working remotely with the Minnesota based tech support along with my local techs they have concluded that the movement of my arms during rowing workouts is confusing the MV logarithms responsible for detecting air volume in the lungs and elevating heart rate appropriate to the effort. One Boston Scientific theory is that arm movement is causing the pacer body to m...

Pacer lifted by bras including sports bra

I have noticed that my bra straps don't interact well with my pacer as they get 'caught' on the side of the pacer.  Sports bras seemed to work better but this morning while doing light weights, the sports bra went under the side and lifted the pacer on it's side sticking up out of my chest and resting on the bra strap.  Freaked me out!!  I have a need to continue to work out so can anyone offer their experience with keeping the pacer in place while working out?&...

Kilimanjaro

Has anyone climbed Kilimanjaro with a pacemaker/ICD? I sure it has been done, but I am looking for first hand advice. We are climbing this year up the Rongai route. I will be talking to my electrophysiologist soon about possibly increasing my betablocker dosage to account for the low oxygen increasing my heart rate.

Thanks everyone!

Cycling after pm install

Lots of discussion on which pm works for cycling....Short answer, none of them.

Im pacemaker dependent using a new St Jude.  Tried lots of setting without ever achieving proper balance between cycling and not cycling. I was about to give up when I read an article on the new Giant E-3 Road bike.  So I bought one and it has changed my life back to almost Normal.  I’m 74 and back doing all the local club rides with great success .  The only difference is that few...

HR monitor

Just started using a whaoofitness.com tickr-fit-optical-heart-rate-monitor for cycling. The old chest strap version never worked correctly due to electrical interference from the pacemaker. I'm now 74 and I've been cycling year round for nearly 30 years - used to compete. The tickr-fit has much capability - options for indoor trainer, outdoor cycling, running, treadmill, etc. Provides several graphs of a workout. Options for smartphone announcements of how you are doing duri...

Pacemaker

I want to begin by saying how happy I am to have discovered this club. I am learning so much and so many of my questions are being answered.

I'm a 55 year old female. I received my pacemaker in July 2017 for complete heart block.

In December while having my check up it was discovered one of my leads had malfunctioned. I ended up having another surgery to have it replaced.

I'm almost 5 weeks post op and wanting to continue my yoga, however I've be...

Rate Response PM Setting

Hi All,

I had my first AFib ablation in 6/10.  I had my PM implanted for SS in 2/11.  I just had my 2nd Afib ablation 11/17.  I was allowed to resume all my normal activities 1 week post procedure.  I was not able to tolerate any exertion so I waited until 1/1/18 to start running again.  I got a new Garmin GPS running watch with all the bells and whistles for Xmas so I started using it during exercise.  The PM was implanted to increase my HR during exertion...
