Is it possible?
I had a massive heart attack (100% blockage of LAD) on June 16/2013. Four days after, I had an event of VT. Rather than medication alone, a defib was recommended and I was implanted with same on July 3/13.
My question.....is it possible the defib will never shock me? Does anyone know what the average is for receiving shocks. I almost wish that one would happen so I would know what it feels like.
Another question - is it normal to feel ALL the edges of the defib? I h...
Had a good weekend
Hi All,
I worked in my yard over the weekend. I've had my ICD since July 16th of this year. It felt so good to be able to do yard work w/out experiencing shortness of breath. I feel as though I have so much energy and I'm constantly doing all the things that I could barely do before the ICD. I'm thankful and my family was so happy to know that I'm feeling better and stronger!
Today I feel pretty good. My ICD tends to move a bit when I first wake up in the morning and m...

I just read your reply. I can believe the experience you had with your pug, Morty. My husband thought all along that my little cocker spaniel, Gypsy, had reacted to my ICD shocking me back in February. She started running like she was crazy screaming and running out the doggie door and back in the house and behind the toilet in the bathroom and we were trying to catch her and boom my defibrillator shocked me. My husband took her to the emergency vet and he could find...
Running races and getting shocked
Has anyone had their defibrillator shock you when you are running in a race. I was in a 5k last Saturday and I didn't warm up and right after the 1/2 mile, my ICD shocked me. Right before it shocked me I had stopped because I started to feel like strange. I have had my ICD one year tomorrow and it has only shocked me twice. The first time was in February when I was chasing my dog because she had something wrong with her. I got too excited and it shocked me. The dog was checked out at the e...
very bad pain left shoulder
Hi
This my 2nd time on here. Last week I was having terrible pain in my left shoulder going into arm and back. I want to thank those who followed up to my problem. Went first to Cardio Drs and all checked out ok after echo and few other heart test. No wires out of place. Primary Dr put me on 800mg on ibuprofen 3 times a day. That corrected right away, He didn't want me on it long, as I'm on other meds.Still some less pain issues in the shoulder since the pacemaker/defib was installed. I sh...
Pacer check
Hi Everyone,
I just had my pacer check last Thursday and it showed multiple episodes of heart rates of 160 (that is where my max setting is) and also a big decrease in activity level which I didn't even know could show up on a pacer check. I am scheduled for my 7th ablation a week from today. I have had my sa node and av node ablated already but continue to have multiple issues with high heart rates and also blood pressure has started to run high. Has anyone else ever had so many iss...
left shoulder arm pain

End of life
From what I understand our Pacemakers are to aid our hearts, not cure them. I'm 100% paced due to complete heart block. I ended up with chronic systolic heart failure/dilated cardiomyopathy due to my first pacemaker. I was upgraded to biventricular ICD last Nov. I'm waiting for my last results form over phone reading. Nurse said they say some problems, follow up with doctor. My concern is that I can't seem to walk or climb stairs or do much of anything without shortness or breath, heart p...

i have been thinking lately about the replacing of my icd. i am due to do this soon. my question is can they refuse to give you a new icd? my ejection fraction is good(45) but my icd does pace my heart at times. i am going in for a nuclear stress test next week. just hope they are preparing me for the icd replacement. my voltage is down to 2.62 volts as of june 22. seems to me they are kinda dragging their feet on this. what does everyone think? thanks--tony
Defibrillator /Hiccups
Just had a three lead defibrillator implanted. Almost immediatelyI began to have belching and hiccups non stop. the device was reprogrammed which helped fora short time but reoccurred a few hours later. On the next visit they turned the device completely off for a few minutes (2 or3). he hiccups continued. he doctor said it was not caused by the device leads. could this still be possible even after the currents turned offdorashottime?

Good evening,
I experienced a v-tach storm on March 2nd of this year and was shocked 31 times within an hour. Also an additional 8 times in the hospital while they were "experimenting" with my device after a cardiac ablation.
Prior to that I had one shock a year earlier. I've had my CRT-D since December 9, 2009.
It appears my driving days are over. After my first shock and only shock in 2012, my cardiologist suggested that I not drive for six months. After th...
ICD and Carvedilol and LBBB
ICD has been in for over two weeks now. During the last doctor visit, I was told my ICD is working 100% of the time. That means lower battery life and my Sinus node pace is overriden by the ICD.
My question is this: Why do I need Carvedilol (beta blocker) to slow my heard down when the ICD determines the rate?
I know Carvedilol is a Beta blocker and Aplha blocker. I stoped taking 5mg of Lisiopril which is an Alpha blocker.
I tried increasing the Carvedilol dose from...
Today is my last day at work
Morning All,
It's getting close to ICD surgery. Today is my last day in the office. As you all know, I'm set for surgery on Tues. I will be taking 2 weeks off just becasue I can! I am mentally preparing myself and still a bit anxious about the procedure. I know it will be alright. I will check in with you all after the procedure. I hope everyone has a blessed weekend!
Neck and Shoulder pain/discomfort
Morning All,
Since yesterday, I have been having severe neck and shoulder pain. I've taken Advil and it did nothing. I soaked in the tub last night - still no relief. I was able to sleep pretty comforably last night but once I got up this morning; the pain came back. I don't have my ICD yet - will get it next Tues. July 16th. I'm wondering if these muscles aches are a result of the cardiomyopathy. Anyone know? Thanks.
Home Monitoring
Hi All,
Do any of you monitor your pacemakers/ICD's from home? How does this work? Does the insurance company pay for the equipment? My doctor mentioned that at my f/u appointment, they would talk to me about home monitoring. My ICD surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday. Also, my cadio also mentioned that I might need cardia Rehab. What is that like? Can anyone speak to that? Thanks!

Another newbie
Hi Everyone,
I'm Cyril from the UK and have just joined the forum.
Until March 5th 2010 I considered myself a very healthy and fit 62 year old. That day, whilst on my way to a school friend's funeral (he died of a heart attack) I blacked out whilst driving at 75mph on the motorway not far from Bristol. I was fortunate, and survived uninjured but was taken to hospital by a friend where I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome and fitted with an ICD.
When I came out...
sympathic nerve block of sa node?
Hi everyone, it has been a little while since I have posted. I have been trying to figure out things. My sinus node or the nerves on the outside of the heart has came back causing me multiple issues like more heart rates of 130 so they are going to do a sinus node ablation aug 5th. I thought I would do a little research on my own and had all my records faxed to the mayo to see if they thought they could help me if this ablation didn't work. The EP dr's response was he thinks this is being caused...
