What are the symptoms of a broken lead

Hello folks:  I'll be seeing my general cardiologist tomorrow to try and figure out why I took 2 steps forward and 3 steps backward after walking a mile each day on  July 21st and 22nd.  My Inplant date was July 18th.  The advice I've received so far has been that I tried to do too much too soon.  I hope this is the answer but now I'm wondering if I pulled a Lead out while taking a shower on the 20th.  When I was reaching upward with the arm on my Dev...

Distance swimming, and other arm exercises

Hi all,

I posted a similar message last year, but am still interested in people's thoughts.

How many of you with a chest implantable ICD/pacemaker do distance swimming, and other 'extreme repetitive arm movements', rowing, weights etc?

I've been given extremely vague advice from the doctors to not do 'too much' due to the risk of wire fracture.

We all have different devices for different reasons so please could you give as much detail as p...

Battery duration

Hello. I met someone who said she had her pm battery replaced after just 8 weeks due to a highly active period of exertion.  Does that seem plausible to anyone?  Does the battery duration depend on how many leads it feeds and on how much pacing it supports?  Thanks for your feedback.

Any help or advice would be great :)

Hi, jystbwondering if anyone has experienced anything simaler or could offer some much needed advice....... I had replacement wires and battery on right side 3 months ago, my journey has been far from simple, these are my 3rd set of wires, my second only lasted 10 months, Dr's seem to think the active wires didn't suit my heart and so had them replaced with passive wires. I've also had a wire perforate my heart which was taken out and replaced immediately. I originally had a pacem...

Heart Ablation Completed

I just returned from the hospital at the University of Alabama. The procedure took 4 and 1/2 hours. It was surreal--I was surrounded by computer monitors, numerous technicians, nurses and the EP. They had to give a general anesthetic to make sure that I did not move. My body was covered with various stickers and defib pads etc. All I know right now is that they say it went well. It takes time for my heart tissue to heal from the radio frequency ablation It is common to continue to have s...

nightmare box change

Hi everyone, newbie here. Just had first box change a week ago and just my luck things went wrong... has anyone else heard of this happening. After removing the box the surgeon was unable to release the screw from the lead he tried for an hour then called for another surgeon to try he also failed to release it, I was freaking out by this time but they had no choice but to leave it in cap it off and insert another lead. Afterwards I was told this had never happened before which was no consolation...

Just had surgery on Tuesday 5/17/16

I just had my surgery 4 days ago. I wore a sling for the first few days. I was wondering about the possibility of pulling the leads out. I slept without the sling on and woke up with tremendous pain in my shoulder. I don't know if I moved wrong in my sleep. But I was concerned about pulling the leads out.

EOL and AND

I have chosen not to have my device replaced. I have about 1.5 years of battery life remaining
I will have the defibrillator functions turned off prior to battery failure to allow natural death.
I'd like to know, since I am 100%paced, what to expect.
Will the pacer just shut off or will it slowly get weaker?

Loose lead(s)?

I have had my pacemaker since July 2013. My device checks have all been normal. In the last few weeks, however, I have had a distinct feeling that a lead is out of place in my heart/chest. This does not resemble anything that I have felt before. It literally feels like a wire is just hanging around in my chest! Many thanks for your insight! (MedEditor)

Jumping feeling in throat!!

I've had a pacemaker for 10 years now! 2 years ago my original wires broke down and I had 2 more added and a new System put onto my right side. These were active wires and only latest for 10 months before they failed. I had these removed and another active wire put into my ventricle, this perforated my heart so this was again removed and a passive wire put in. The Drs believe my heart didn't react well to the active wire. I haven't felt right though since my orginal wires, I'm still getting symp...

2 Fractured Leads

Today, I was told I have 2 fractured leads. I had my ICD implant in 2009 and just had the generator replaced in Nov 2015.
I had Rotator Cuff surgery about a month ago on my left shoulder, the same side as my ICD implant. My cardiologist suspects that's how the leads got broken - during that procedure. I see the Cardiac Electrophysiologist in a week.to see how to fix this. I was told this is a big problem to handle and that there are high risks involved.
How serious are broken leads?...

Leads still working

Had my first pacemaker fitted nearly three weeks ago. Apart from some remaining bruising and irritation around wound and pain in upper left arm all seems O.K. My check up is not for another four weeks. My pulse rate is pretty constant at 60. Is there any way I can check that the two leads are working well and are on there way to being embedded?

Longevity of lead?

Hi I've had a icd for nearly 5 years now and recently I've been wondering about the longevity of the lead, I've asked my doctor about the icd life but not the lead. I'm 20 years old, will my lead last me the rest of my life or will it need to be replaced. I plan on asking my doctor during my next check up however if someone here could help me that would be awesome!
Thanks

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
