Hi everyone, i had my share of bad luck these past few weeks... After about 9 years my pm's battery needed to be replaced.
While in the OR they noticed that one of the electrodes was fractured and need to be replaced. They replaced the battery and discharged me, because they needed authority from the medical aid before the lead could be replaced.
Two days later the authority came through, and i was admitted and the lead was replaced. Now with my new Medtronic pm and lead i think i was better off with the old one with the dead battery and all.
During the evenings while i am sleeping i wake up from the impulses, every second for minutes at a time because the pm never shut down. When i am busy and working it is quiet, but as soon as i lay down, the sports start.
I went back to Cardiologist and he said that my heartbeat is a bit high and that they can't see the pm kikking in all the time in the evenings.
I have a post op consultation on the 9th, and i'm going to refuse to leave his office, till they fix this problem.
I do not know if this pm is faulty or what, but i can't sleep because of this over eager pm. What should i do?

Since I got my pacemaker, I don't pass out anymore! That's a blessing in itself.
settings

Ask them if the new one is set to the SAME settings as the old one. Sometimes they leave it on the standard settings rather than make sure you have the same settings that were working for you before. It's also possible the lead is not positioned well. If it's positional- feel good when upright but bad when flat- it's possible that the lead is moving around. Ask for an xray to verify it's where it's supposed to be and anchored well.
