I recently had a new pacemaker implanted. When I lie down I get a thumping effect in my stomach for several minutes.
This did not happen with the pacemaker which was
replaced. Is this common? Can there be something wrong with the new pacemaker?

After getting my pm I had occasional thumping or twitches on the left side just below the ribs. During the last interrogation of the pm the voltage was turned down a little and the problem was resolved.
what type of device?

What type of device do you have? If you have a bi-ventricular device (with the left ventricular lead) then it may be some diaphragmatic stimulation which can be alleviated by turning down the voltage or changing the pacing polarity of that LV lead.

Hi everyone, sorry for replying only now.
After that thumping effect in my stomach i went back to the cariologist and his assistant made a ajustment to one of the setting and everything was ok again.
Since then , i sleep like a baby every night.
Thank you for all your responces.

That is called PVC , I get them sometimes once or twice a day and they come in 3's .... 3 thuds and then gone ... The doctors at Duke say that is normal and there is nothing to worry about ... It's just extra "electricity" kicking into the heart ......
