V-Tach Storm - Driving?

Good evening,

I experienced a v-tach storm on March 2nd of this year and was shocked 31 times within an hour. Also an additional 8 times in the hospital while they were "experimenting" with my device after a cardiac ablation.

Prior to that I had one shock a year earlier. I've had my CRT-D since December 9, 2009.

It appears my driving days are over. After my first shock and only shock in 2012, my cardiologist suggested that I not drive for six months. After the my lastest episode on March 2nd...my EP says that I need to make an "adult decision" about ever driving again...which I understand.

I'm just interested in hearing other's experiences with driving after an ICD shock/s...It would really help.

Thanks!

Ron

Hi, here in the UK if a doctor says you can't drive you have to inform DVLA, the driving Licence agency here, typically they revoke your licence. I had to stop driving before I had my PM fitted & had to wait for DVLA to be satisfied from my Dr that I was fit to drive again.
I'm a bit surprised that it's left to a patient to make an "adult decision" about fitness to drive, shouldn't the dr do that?

Wow, I am surprised by that. I was allowed to drive 7 days after my PM was fitted & unless anything happens to the contrary I can keep my licence. My PM was to stop syncope & it does, but if there are any more fainting episodes or light headedness I'm legally obliged to inform them & they will take the licence away.

I remember how I felt when I passed out, luckily I was not driving as I know I would not have been able to stop safely.

I couldn't live with the guilt of killing someone.

Thanks to All

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your experiences...really helpful knowing I'm not the only one.

In the grand scheme driving is not a big deal anyway at my age.

Thanks again!

Ron

You know you're wired when...

Muggers want your ICD, not your wallet.
