PACs

So I went to my semi annual checkup yesterday. I got moved from the every 6 month program to every 3 months. My PM confirmed that I had an episode of AFib for almost 14 hrs. But the bigger picture was my PAC runs. Every previous checkup I've had my PAC runs were 28 or less. This time it was over 45,000! So my doctor put my a "pill in a pocket" of propafenone. He said to take 3 when I feel my Afib come back and if/when it gets worse and more frequent I have the choice of a beta blocker or another ablation. I don't really want either one but if those are my only options I guess I will wait to choose one when I get to that point.

Afib and such

The pill in the pocket is one method of controlling your afib runs for the moment. You may be looking at ablation again in the future. Bad news is ablation isn't always the cure. The good news is medical science is making advances every day. I also hope you are on a blood thinner - based upon past posts I'm guessing you are.

You have the Medtronic Adapta model. Is it the one with the APP program? I just found out Monday the APP program has to be hard wired into the PM so not all models have it. If your model does, you may want to ask your EP to turn it on. APP has worked for me.

Since you have the newer model, your APP (if you have it) may be more effective than the APP program I have on mine. Mine is a simplex version of the program. Whereas the newer program has multi-modes.

I'm on Cardizem and Metoprolol to control the afib. I don't like it but the alternatives are worse. Between the meds and the APP program it has brought my afib sessions into a manageable level.

So while I hear you don't like the pill-in-the-pocket and other meds, please consider them as a viable alternative.

I hope everything else goes well for you.

APP??

Knot guy,

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure if I have the APP on my device. I got my implanted in 2011. I am at work until Sunday and all of my paperwork is at home. I will check on it when I get home. I am only taking 81mg of aspirin a day. I will let you know what I find out about my device.

You know you're wired when...

You always run anti-virus software.
