Just wondering
I'm have a ICD Gen Change done this Friday, and I was wondering do the same do and don'ts apply like it did when I first rec'd one. I watch my 15 month grandchild...will I be able to pick her up, or will I have to wait the 6 weeks. I can't remember what happened last time (4 years ago). I will call the doctor on Monday, but am thinking about it now. Any advice?

Whoops! A Disagreement

Tracey: When I had my PM replaced, no lead work, my restrictions were the same as for the original implant & for a replacement of a broken lead.
Must depend greatly on the individualsurgeon.

The only time I've been given any restrictions was when I got my lead replacement last time. I didn't even get any restrictions with my first implant! I guess they figured with the way they buried it I'd be sore enough I'd behave for a few weeks (and I did. mostly LOL). All they told me with my other two was keep the incision dry, call if it doesn't look good. I wonder why they'd tell you that? Because the whole point of the arm restrictions is to let the leads settle into place. On a replacement, they screwed the old leads into the new generator.
not the same!

The arm restrictions are for the leads to heal. If you are not getting new leads, only a generator, then the only thing will be watching out for the incision until it heals. You should be able to pick up the baby as long as you feel up to it, but be careful about getting hit! 15 month olds can be squirmy. I'd keep her on your good side, don't hold her on your sore side. If the first surgery is a 10, replacements are a 2-3, imo. I've had 4 now.

Thank you everyone for the information. I guess I will have to wait and see what the dr. says.....I will let you know.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.

It'll be same as last time for the Arm/elbow restrictions.
Generally - it's 6 weeks keeping the elbow below the shoulder; can't lift any more than X lbs (X depends on the surgeon. Mine started out at 5 lbs & I talked him into making it 8 lbs - the weight of a gallon of milk.)
