I have polycystic kidney disease and have had a pacemaker implanted for a few years now. It has totally changed my life for the better! Does anyone have a combination of kidney disease and a pacemaker. I am only 42, but I will need a kidney transplant in a few years and I wanted to know if the pacemaker would interfere?
Thanks,
Donna

I'm 44, active and have had my device for two years. I love it as I can run again and enjoy working out without feeling like I'm an old man.

Hi Donna~ I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling better with your PM but I imagine you are not feeling great with the kidney failure. I had a kidney transplant almost 2 years ago(at age 34) and also have a PM with no issues. I also have worked many years as an RN in surgery and can't imagine that you will encounter any issues with surgery related to your PM. You just need to make sure that your transplant team(especially the anethetist) are all aware that you have a PM and they will take the necessary precautions. Do you have someone who will be donating to you? I was so blessed to have someone who was willing to donate to me and we will always share a very special bond. Good luck with everything!! ~blessed~
