Hello! My name is Kelly, I am 33 and I just had my PM put in on March 3, 2011. I went to the doc with severe dizzy spells and headaches. My pulse was topping out at 36. They sent me to the hospital where I received a temp PM than my permanent one. While in the hospital I also had 2 strokes from this. I am now home and trying to cope with everything. I still get dizzy spells when I lean my head back but hopefully that will go away soon. I was wondering how everyone deals with the aftermath. I was healthy untill 2 weeks ago now everything has changed. Patience has never been a virtue of mine but my family and I are learning to take it one day at a time now.I'd love to hear how everyone delt with getting their PM. Hearing how well people do is such an encouragement for me. Thanks!

I got my pacemaker back in September and had it repositioned in February, life is looking much better to me these days heart and PM wise. I am actually writing about your recent strokes and the effects to your emotions thay can have, you kind of got a double whammy pacemakers and strokes all in one fell swoop. I was not much younger than you when I had a series of strokes over a period of 2 years. It was along hard recovery but within another 2 years very few people could tell I had had a stroke, except at emotional times, I, to this day cannot hear of weddings births deaths any emotion provoking situation without crying. It doesn't even have to be any one close to me...I cry happy tears, proud tears and sad sad tears.
Don't make me angry either. I don't make much sense then either. What I am saying most though is this... cut yourself enough slack to recover completely. You were in the hospital when you had your strokes so you probably won't have any after effects from them with the new clot busting drugs most people don't but if you do don't beat yourself up about it because you are only human and you will get better as you heal.
best luck and good wishes,

Dizzy with head back

That sounds like vertigo which is an inner ear symptom. You may have had an infection or virus that brought about the heart problem and is still affecting your ear.
The best way to deal with the pacer is to get on with life as soon as you feel like it. If you were in good shape before all this happened you should be back in the same shape in few weeks. It just takes a while for the body to heal like with any surgery. The only other issue to be aware of it that pacers need to be adjusted for your body and condition. If you have any concerns about continuing symptoms be sure and post them here as well as bringing them up to your cardiologist.
best wishes,
frank

..in your last couple sentences. You are apparently learning patience & taking it one day at a time. You have a support group - family & an extended group here.
That and a positive attitude & faith that all will improve w/ time.
Hang in there the way you are going & you'll make it.
Cheers.
