Hello Mytrose444.
Where in Colorado are you from? I live in Aurora.
Would you mind telling me the name of the doctor who does the mini maze procedure?
Is he by any chance in Colorado Springs? Would he be Dr Christopher Cole MD?
Who knows, we may know the same doctor.

Hi Valerie.
If you have a chance to see Dr Cole, I know that he will try everything possible to help you, before he even suggests the mini maze.
He is an excellent E.P, he did his training at the Cleveland Clinic. You will be in excellent hands.
I have Afib, the pacemaker does not resolve this condition, it only makes it more bearable.
I don't want to burst your bubble, but I was also told that having ablations would get me off all the medications I was taking.
Unfortunately, all 4 were unsuccessful, I had the AV node ablated, resulting in complete heart block, and the implantation of the PM, and I still have incessant Afib, and still take a lot of medications. I am not as aware of the episodes as I used to be though. Your PM can be adjusted so you hardly feel it going on.
Given a choice, I wouldn't have the mini maze procedure.
Try your best to see If you can make a consult appointment with Dr Cole, and find out what he would suggest is best for you. I'm sure he'll work something out with you.
Best of luck, I'll be thinking about you. If you need to talk more, private message me, I'll give you my e-mail address.
Take care,
~ Dominique ~

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.

mytrose,
check out the Afib support group.
afibsupport@yahoogroups.com
There are some true experts, as well as lots of support for people with arrhythmias.
Some have had the Mini Maze. Some are talking about the new procedures as well. Minimaze is still an invasive surgery. There are some new techniques discussed on the afib board.
Some are achieving success with natural diet, no caffeine, no drinking, etc.
The biggest help is taking your Magnesium supplements. All who tried it report improvement with enough Mag in our diets.
