Telephone transmission problem

New pacemaker user here who has medtronics unit which allows MRI to be done. Tried to do telephone check today but had telephone transmission problems. Was told this could be caused by having Verizon FIOS. Was also told that if I had a problem it might be overcome by paying an $11.00 monthly fee.
Anyone else run into this? Anyone found a solution without paying a monthly fee? Thanks in advance.

Question for you; Are you using a cell phone?

Sorry, but I don't know what FIOS is? I know what Verizon is but not FIOS.

I have Verizon, too. Pacergirl is correct in asking if you are using a cell phone they do not work well for this. Also, I have found my telephone wired into the wall does a far better job transmitting than the two portable phones. If you have a telephone where your receiver is wired try it.

Verizon FIOS transmission problem

I did plug the unit into my wall outlet. My understanding is the 11.00 fee is paid to Medtronics and it provides an adapter that overcomes the FIOS problem. Thanks to all who responded so far hopefully someone has had the same problem and overcome it. Meanwhile I will be checking with neighbors to see if any of them have a different provider that I can test it on.

Nothing like a landline

I'm probably one of the few holdouts with a landline. There's probably interference on the line like most internet and modem telephones.

I have a PM but not for MRI's

when I use my land line (another hold out too) there is a problem in my living room to test PM over the phone so I go into the bathroom with my hand held phone (on landline) & works OK. Have you tried different places in you home?

Adapters cost 3.00

to 15.00. I do not see why you should have have to pay a monthly fee for one it should be an one time charge. Best Buy has one. for five dollars. It depends on what store you use or you could get them online. With the price of fuel these days shipping is about equal to what you would pay going to the store. I would try stores for a smaller amount before paying 11.00 to medtronic.

Problem solved, thanks for all the input!

Thanks for all you help folks. Plugged into a different phone jack and was able to sucessfully transmit. I have no idea why it would not transmit from one jack but would from the other but certainly appreciate the suggestions and input you all had.

Land Line PM Checks

by donb - 2012-01-20 06:01:16

Thought I might add a comment as having dealt with years of land line PM checks. I had a real land line phone problem with AT&T (originally Michigan Bell). As I had a double line underground system from many years ago, it was discovered my double system was no longer legal. They proceeded to disconnect my 2nd 2 car garage which I also used with my Medtronic Teletrace. I keep one in my bedroom & another in my shop in my 2nd garage. After a number of complaint calls explaining I was a PM patient & needed this phone they finally came back & reconnected my 2nd line. As both lines are under cement drive in a court and wireless not working with my Teletrace, I felt this service which was paid for many years ago should have been grand-fathered. So, anytime we need help with communications, don't forget to mention the word "Pacemaker", it's kinda like, no more run-arounds!!!Donb

FIOS is

by walkerd - 2012-01-20 06:01:29

a landline as far as I know its just supposedly the fiber optic lines they use, Id call your phone company and ask why your unit wont transmit, im no engineer but it should. Id call Verizon if you already havent and ask. Just curious who told you about the filter for 11 bucks a month Medtronic or Verizon?

Good luck and 11 bucks a month sounds like a scam to me

dave

they have adapters for filtering that

that I had to get when I had dial up and ADT they are inexpensive when you compare it to 11.00 amonth for life. I have a land line too.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
