meds

I have a question..I have Boston Scientific ICD....Have had it for about 1 1/2 years...my doctor put me on digoxin and troprol xl...Im haveing bad headaches on one side of my head and sinus trouble...Dripping nose and lots of sneezes...This has been going on for months...The Dr says it has nothing to do with my meds but I seem to be reading online that it can cause headache and sinus trouble...Also it says you shouldnt take digoxin and troprol xl together not even one in the morning and one at night ..It says they can go against each other..But the Dr says I have to take them...as my heart muscle is not to good and i had a ablation for WPW before the ICD so I shouldnt have to take the troprol for anything I wouldnt think..my question is does anyone take this combination of meds ? Just feel something isnt right or I wouldnt have these headaches. thank you for your comments

I was on troprol xl for awhile and doing well on it and then my doc added digoxin. I did not feel well... It upset my stomach and I had a strange feeling that I really can't
explain -- I just didn't feel like myself. I stopped digoxin
and felt back to normal. I didn't have headaches but everyone one is different. It certainly can be a side effect.
I think you have to have another talk with yr doctor...maybe it's the combination or maybe it's one of the drugs. He should work with you to give you a drug or a combo of drugs that you can live with.

ask again

I would go back to the dr and ask again, but first go talk to your pharmacist to arm yourself with additional information. They are more up on side effects and bad combinations than many drs are. the dr will take it more seriously if you say "my pharmacist said" rather than "I read online".

You are right about the pharmacist knowing more about the drugs or more info....I just know my head feels weird and hurts and I use to never have a headache...Funny the one dr told me before I had the ICD that it would keep me from taking any meds..cause I had trouble with meds now this dr has me on 2 and the ICD...If I had known I would have to take pills anyway I would have waited on the ICD....Well thanks for the comments..may just check with druggest and then Dr...

Concommitant Digoxin & Toprolol

Interesting thread. I, likewise did some research & righ off the bat said that the two drugs have a moderate interaction & should only be given in controlled & special circumstances.

I'd say that all the side effects you claim could very well stem from the two drugs.

Further, what I read said that you should start on Toprolol, establish that in the patient & then titrate the Digoxin to an effective level for whatever the Dr. wants as a result. (If you are not a medic of some sort, titrate means to adjust the dose slowly & upward in small steps.)

I'd say you need to have a detailed conversation w/ your pharmacist & go see the cardio.

In the FWIW category, I went to a site of mixed medics - a student asked essentially your question & got more hemming & hawing that you can imagine, so this is NOT a simple subject well understood by the profession.
