High resistance leads

Hi all,
AS stated earlier, I got my last pm last Wednesday and the issue of short battery life was addressed in some way by an impedance change. I could not get my head around this as my doc and the Medtronic rep tried to explain. I spoke with someone in the pacer clinic yesterday. She had overheard the talk about this and admitted she too did not understand what they were doing to make this change. Of course, it all has to do with ohm law but we could not figure out how it was accomplished. She is doing more investigating for me but did tell me it was something to do with settings on high resistance leads. Is anyone familiar with these and does anyone have them? If so, how are adjustments made on these versus regular leads? I am trying hard to do my homework on this so I can have hope for a longer battery life this go around!

After reading some stuff on your condition I ran into another use of the term impedance (or resistance) than the electrical one. It has to do with the impedance of the heart wall which is a physical function. It would be used to mean how stiff the wall is.

So with your bi-vent pacer they may be adjusting the pacing voltage to get the most out of a chamber.
