ERI pacing at 65 bpm

I am scheduled for my 1st replacement in two weeks after 7 1/2 years of success with rate responsive Medtronic Versa.. They tell me I am 100% dependent. I am now in the ERI mode and being paced at 65 bpm. I notice my bpm does not go above 65 even with moderate exercise. Is this because the pace maker won't let my heart beat any faster even with exercise or is it because my heart can't beat faster on it's own? Feeling somewhat more fatigued than normal but still can function.

Thanks for any input,
Rodger Zawodniak

It sounds like you've moved from ERI to EOL. In ERI, it's fully functional. When it switches to EOL, it cuts back and paces at a steady rate. Don't overdo it when in this mode. I would hold off on exercise at this point, it's hard on the body when the rate doesn't go up as it should.

If this is your first replacement, know that they're super easy!

The device is probably still at ERI. Medtronic pacers will only pace VVI at 65 bpm when they reach ERI to save the battery . It is theoretically is guarranteed for 3 months from ERI. Since you are dependen, your intrinsic heart rate must be below 40 or so. So you would not be able to get your heart rate up on your own. Many people don't feel very well when paced at VVI. Be patient - the new device will be programmed the way you are used to.
