I had my PM with the idea that ,I have just to change the battery of my PM ... 7 - 10 years....and get to 60 years old with only 5 battery replacement,,,,,,
I see people here that have changed their PM 4 times within 8 years ...or worse they have change even leads........
I had my PM just to be sure i'll be fine , I didn't have problems for the moment, just my heart was beating 33/50 and i felt them strong , so I put my PM. to make sure my fiancee , to get marry to have children...... but if i'll have to change PM often or anything else I don't know.............

Battery change
by AmorgosIsle - 2012-12-16 05:12:08
It is not the battery that is changed it is the whole pace maker the new pacemaker is connected to the existing leads unless you have a separate problem with the leads which is highly unlikely they are screwed and glued to the pacemaker. My first a Guidant the battery was supposed to last 5 years. It did last and there was no sign of deterioration. At 4.5 years I was called in for a check, they said the battery was fine and working well but they would change it in 3 months which was 3 months shorter than the manufacturers specification. This year I had the replacement they tell me that this one will last 7 years. By then I shall be 78. Keep smiling and do not worry :)
The whole pacemaker !!!!!!!

AmorgosIsle !!!!!!! so it means i have to buy every second of my life.... if i have to spend 3500 Euro for every time that i have to change the battery it means will come a time I won't be able to buy my battery .... :( here where i live life is hard ......I was hoping that next time I'll have only to change the battery with a cost at least 500 Euro...... :( ...
some time it is better not to know everything ....
.... Let's hope in a miracle ...

Pacemaker complications

Hi!
There are lots of pacemaker patients who never ever have any complications, and just have a replacement surgery for instance every 7 - 10 years. Some of us are not so lucky, but you'll never be able to tell beforehand who'll end up with problems, and who won't.
I believe that people who join this support forum often do have some kind of problem - either it's coping with having a device or it's some kind of complication like infection, lead fracture, lead dislocation etc. If you are absolutely fine and do not have these problems, then why get in touch with others, why look for a support forum? So, this at least partly explains why you read so many stories of complications here.
I'm one of those who had six pacemaker surgeries in 11 years. But even though I had to grit my teeth a lot, and had to go through all these surgeries, I'm still much better off with the pacemaker than without it. The days that I'm doing great because of the pacemaker outweigh those days with surgeries or recovery from surgeries.
With a heart rate of 33-50bpm I could imagine that a pacemaker would give you a lot more energy. You might not feel like you don't have any energy at the moment, mostly because your body got used to the slow heart rate and because you don't know how it feels to have it beating at 60-80bpm. But once the pacemaker is in, the chances that you'll all of a sudden realize how much more you can do with those extra beats per minute, are good.
Best wishes
Inga
