few yrs, latest being 8/11. I was given IV med (forget name) & was in what I believe is called Twilight Sleep. So aware but didn't care-hah. Was very light as able to eat a light lunch afterwards at hospital & then go home. Didn't drive tho until next day. Discomfort was very minimal as same pocket used. My leads were same & not as necessary to be as careful about arm raising.

Hope that helps. remember the "Search" button on the top right if you want to look at previous posts on this or other subjects.

I was for all pratical purposes same as asleep, ! I spent the night in the hospital! I did get pain meds. the implant site did hurt. there's things you shouldn't do, lifting, stretching your arms over your head, I slept in a lazy boy chair for a week. you'll be fine, I would plan on taking some time off work. I didn't drive for a couple of week's either, my chest was sore.

Wide awake

Both my original implant in 2004 and replacement in 2010 were done with just a local pain injection around the incision. By my orders no sedatives or "something to help you relax". My agreement with the anesthesiologist was that he would be prepared to give me something if I asked for it.

Anything more is not needed unless you are the type that freaks out. There is nothing to it. With the replacement I was reading a technical book in my bed when they came to get me. I layed it on the stand and about an hour later picked it up where I left off. The only pain I felt was a few needle pricks where they injected the local.

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
