Question to all of you experts out there: I am getting out of the Military and losing my life insurance policy. I went to USAA today and they won insure me due to my ICD, the military's version of our current life insurance policy balloons to 1800 a month at 75 for 400K of term. I was wondering, what options do we have in regards to life insurance for people with an ICD? A recommendations on companies?

Life insurance

You might try finding a local Primerica agent. It's really good insurance and I think they will insure someone with ICD?? I know you can get a minimal policy without any medical questions asked. I used to sell it but can't across state lines. you can google primerica find local agent.. it's also an excellent opportunity for someone that wants to go into business for themselves.

Whole life vs term

This isn't really the place to go into it but if at all possible you do NOT want whole life--PM me and i'll explain why there's a much better way.

none here

My insurance agent was never able to find coverage for me, so I've never had life insurance.

Good o'l USAA

J, when I joined in 1967 & they only insured low risk Military Officers. We, in USAA, were considered family and treated as such. Now they are they are just another money grubbing insurance with no special consideration for members. They are no better than all the others out there even though they are supposed to be non-profit. I appreciate that I'm retired and have Medicare and Tricare for life but that is what the Navy promised us for those years of long deployments away from our families and low pay. I can't see why USAA can't have a little more consideration for their own!

I still think you might be able to get term with no questions asked. It won't be a lot but some is better than none. I'd try googling primerica find a local agent. It's good insurance and if they can help you out it might be worth it to you

It's not easy

I have tried several times to get more life insurance. Luckily I got quite a bit many years ago. I had agents that have said no problem to get more insurance only come back and say sorry. My EP even wrote a letter that said I was low risk of a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest. But alas no deal.

That is about the only bad side affect I have had with my PM.

Thanks for the advice. I am looking because I do want and need some for my family. I am still looking and taking my notes, compiling a list of questions for the Company's I plan on dealing with and going to ask intelligent and thorough questions so I can get the best possible deal for me.

Thanks for all the comments

Thanks again for all the comments. I am actively searching for insurance companies. I would be will to do any physical they required because I do consider my self in excellent shape. If all else fails I will take the policy converting from the militaries version to civilian policy. I have 120 days from separation with no questioned asked and no physical. It goes up every 5 years so I have about 12 years before it balloons 17 before it really goes sky high but I do want to leave children something when it is my time. I never thought it would be this difficult learn something every day.

Life Insurance - Pacemaker

by HLIjimmymcmillan - 2017-03-23 14:59:43

Here is the key.  Why did you get the ICD installed?  And when?

Pacemakers and ICDs are easy to approve for traditional life insurance policies.  If you have a pacemaker because of a congenital heart block, you can expect a Table 2 approval and we get these every day.

Table 2 means the rates will be 50% more than healthy.  However, still approvable and still affordable at your age.

If you have CHF or Afib, those conditions will be rated on their own.  Diabetic?  High blood pressure?  Overweight?  In these cases, expect to pay more as well.

Still - normal term / GUL life insurance is possible with a pacemaker.  Like I said, we approve the policies every day.

You know you're wired when...

You’re officially battery-operated.
