Lead from the previous Pacemaker still in

Hi
I would really appreciate if anybody can light any knowledge here.

My dad had a surgery this morning for replacement of his pacemaker. the doctor said it would take around 45 minutes or so but it took more than 2 and half hour. Once the operation was done the doctor said they had an issue removing the old pacemaker due to some lead was stuck inside and some fibrosis didnot catch all the terms but they said they did not want to force it and remove the lead since it can really damage other things.

So now they place a new pacemake and put him to ICU for observarion but my worry is still alive since i have this thing in my mind that his old pacemaker lid is still inside.

Did anybody evercome across this scenarios or does anybody have any opinion about this?

Hey, I had my second pacemaker surgery last year and the doctors did not take the lead out for the same reason as your dads, because it was stuck. I was 18 and now i'm 19 and I feel healthy. My pacemaker has not set off since I had it installed in 2006. Good look and prosper.

..................how long had your Fathers leads been in and what is his age ? Broadly the longer they have been in the less easy it is to get them out. If they are working ie, not fractured then there is no need to remove them.

I had the PM and 2 wires removed and a new PM and new wires put in to my right shoulder exactly 21 days ago as I write this...everything just fine....my 'old' PM had been in for 27 months. I had a GA and it took 2 hours

ANGRY S is right..op timings vary enormously because as AS said they dont really know what they have until they go in. X-Rays only give so much info.

Wishing You and Dad all the best from a chilly UK

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
