participate in a study

Hi,

you may have seen my post a week ago where I provided a liks for a survey about experiences with pacemakers and ICDs. I am doing it for my PhD course, and will be so grateful if you can help me with it.
I've already got many responses but most of them are from recipients of pacemakers rather than ICDs. That's why, in order to get a broader and better picture of experiences with technology, I am asking you to participate in my survey.

Here is a link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W36NF9Z

I will post the summarized results on this forum. I hope it will be interesting for you to learn that.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR RESPONSES ARE COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS

I highly appreciate your help and your time!

If you have an ICD you will know what it is

by IAN MC - 2013-04-12 01:04:07

I wonder how many people have an ICD and don't know what an ICD is ..... far more than know what the letters stand for I suspect !

P.S.

by IAN MC - 2013-04-12 01:04:32

I suggest you put both on your form...the abbreviation and the full name, then everybody will understand !

I thought ICD is commonly used?

by Venera_researcher - 2013-04-12 01:04:56

J.B., Thank you for the correction.
Somehow I had a sense that "ICD" is easier to say and write therefore it's more commonly used than a implantable cardioverter-defibrillator...
Do you think I should change a question on ICD in my survey to use a proper name?

Venera

Just want to mention

I have an ICD and I completed your survey. I just want to mention, there was one question where none of the possible answers applied to me, so I skipped that question but it did not let me proceed at the end of the page. So it was either pick an answer or do not take the survey. I chose an answer, but again, it did not apply so don't know how much accuracy your survey will reveal. Maybe as a 5th option for an answer....none of the above??

Just a thought,

Grateful Heart

Yeah I understand

I really apologize for asking you all to participate in the survey - I know from my personal experience how annoying it can be to being recruited for all possible studies! Last week when I went to see my cardiologist - he asked me if I would agree to fill out a questionnaire for some research project. And I felt I should, especially since I am asking the same from people.
Trying to work on my karma;)

Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator

by J.B. - 2013-04-12 12:04:35

You know, if you would call that ICD an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator as it is more commonly known here you world probably get more answers like you need.

So is this survey for those with PM's &

by janetinak - 2013-04-13 02:04:16

those with ICD's? 2 groups right?

Janet

Yeah the survey is for

by Venera_researcher - 2013-04-13 12:04:26

all types of cardiac devices.
And it's quite short - just 10 questions))
Thank you so much for your interest, Janet!

Ian: thank you for the suggestion - I will put both the abbreviation and the name in the question.

Cheers,
Venera

My Error

by Grateful Heart - 2013-04-18 04:04:16

Venera sent me a pvt. msg. regarding my above comment that stated one of the answers did not apply to me. She wanted to update the question if necessary. After reviewing the questions again, it was not Venera's survey that I had a problem answering. I sent the following private message to Venera and just wanted to correct my comment in the open forum as well.

Venera,
I reviewed the questions in your survey again. Apparently, I confused your survey with another. Yours appears to offer choices such as "Other" where appropriate. I'm sorry about the confusion. I recently had surgery (not heart related) when I completed these surveys so maybe a little brain fog.

I will post this in the open forum so the members know it was my error.

Again, I apologize,

Grateful Heart

To Grateful Heart

by Venera_researcher - 2013-04-18 06:04:22

Please dont apologize, I am sure it's my mistake - many people told me that there were no options that could suit them so I've recently updated it a bit adding "other" options where I could. First I would change only one question that's why I wanted to know what exactly you found confusing but then I've reviewed the whole survey.

Thank you a lot! Hope you are recovering quickly after the surgery!
Best,
Venera
