I have moderate to advanced arthritis in one of my hips and tomorrow I will have a fluoroscopy with cortisone shot. I was wondering if any of you have had this done and if it gave you nay problems with your pm. Also, did you have to take antibiotics before the procedures. I have to take that for any dental work.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Winelover - I have severe osteoarthritis in various joints and to keep me going my rheumatologist has injected my left knee a few times after aspirating the accumulated fluid. Usually a topical anesthetic is mixed with the steriod - novacaine or lidocaine like the dentist uses to new your mouth. Always, within a very short period of time I had tremendous relief that lasts for several months at a time. I had a right knee replacement 4 yrs ago and will get the left one replaced in June. I have always referred to the injections as my "tune-up". I would like to think you will also get great relief following the injections. My last injection was in December 06 and I took amoxicillin for 14 days - starting 2 days before the procedure and then 12 days after. Had absolutely no problems. Good luck with yours and let us know how you do. God bless!

Hi Winelover,
I haven't had the fluoroscopy of my hips but I had one of my heart for an extended period of time Thursday 4-26 while getting a stent implanted. This was my 4th trip for that procedure since getting my pacemaker in 2000 and I have never had a problem. As for the cortisone shot, I've had a total of three of those since getting my PM and again never a problem.
If you haven't had the cortisone shot before, I hope you get the pleasant surprise that I got. My injections have been for sciatic nerve problems and each time I have noticed that it removed 90%+ of the arthritis I had in my hands and other joints. Each time that has been a most pleasant surprise and if I could have another one of the shots (they tell me three is my limit) I would be looking forward to the relief I get from arthritis. As for antibiotics, right now I'm on day 15 of a 25 day treatment with Cipro and again, no problems.
I wish you the best.
