Hello! I am new to the club. I am not a PM user, but my mother is and since she is not a computer 'user', I am doing some research for her. She is 75 years old, has had a St.Jude's pacemaker since August 2006, and during her last checkup the doc said she has maximum 2 months left. In a few days she will have her Pacemaker replaced. Since her heart is not helping along AT ALL, the doc said that they would connect a temporary pacemaker on her leg while they replaced the current pacemaker. Sounds a bit freaky to me. Anyone had that experience? I assume that is the normal procedure?
Thanks!

Thank you very much Pookie and Brenda for the replies. Brenda, its good to hear that this is normal and that it has been fine for you. :-) Makes me feel more at ease.

I have heard of that.
I have never known anyone personally to have it done however.
Please keep us posted.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.

I am 100% pacer dependent and have had four pacer and icd changes over the years. I always have a temporary pacer placed in the leg. this has never been a problem for me.
This is normal procedure
