beta blockers

hi just wondered if anyone with a dual lead pm has any experience of propranalol beta blockers. i have second degree heart block hence the pm but have intermittent fast heart rate with annoying palpitations in the chest. i have been prescribed a low dose propranalol which ease things slightly but only for short spells and make me feel tired and not sleeping so well and a little tight in the chest.any thoughts gratfully recieved

I have been on propranalol for over !0 years take it for sss now 20 mg 3 x a day I fnd that if I take more find my heart starts acting up. Sleep I don't get much maybe 4 hr. anight.

Sounds like mild side effects.

What are the possible side effects of propranolol?
• Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
· slow or uneven heartbeats;
· feeling light-headed, fainting;
· feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion;
· swelling of your ankles or feet;
· nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
· depression; or
· cold feeling in your hands and feet.
• Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as;
· sleep problems (insomnia);
· tired feeling; or
· anxiety, nervousness.
• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Hi, belly321!

I have a dual pm, too, and take Toprol XL 50 mg a day. I take my beta-blocker for the VVS/NCS (syncope) I have. I definitely have the cold hands/feet and some sleep issues. For me, the benefit outweighs the inconvenience so far. My EP explained to me how the side effects of beta-blockers on men are entirely different and 'worse' than for women.

Hi,

Like Ela -girl I too have a dual pm and take Toprol XL 100 mgs. for SVT. I have been on beta blockers for a long time. Most of the side effects others have talked about have subsided for me. I still do get the cold hands and feet though.
