New box

Hi,I am due to have a new box put in my first since being placed. I am scared stiff as I had such a bad experience when I had my pacemaker implanted.

Do they give you a sedative to keep you calm?

They seem to be a lot tighter with the sedatives in UK than the US. Tell them you are nervous and want it. I've always said no thanks to anything in advance, but don't want to remember the surgery itself. I had conscious sedation for the last two replacements, so I was awake but don't remember anything. Replacements are super easy compared to the first. Leads are generally good much longer than the box, and they usually go in through the scar tissue. Most of the restrictions after are from the new leads, most of the pain is from creating the pocket to hold the device. None of that with replacements! When I got my last one, I arrived at 6am, was home at 11am.

The replacement is super easy. It is normal to be a little scared, but you will be pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it is.

You'll be at home wondering what you were scared about?

Not sure what you are asking? I usually can't tell a difference between them. I'm on #5.

You know you're wired when...

You forecast electrical storms better than the weather network.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
