I am wondering if anyone with end stage renal disease and takes hemo dialysis has a defibrillator?
I am on the UNOS kidney transplant list for over 3 years and don't want to be passed up if I have a defibrillator. The nephrologist indictated that I will get a call for a kidney transplant within 4 months.
Please let me know your experiences if you have kidney disease and a defibrillator and on kidney transplant list.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dr. V.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.

Hi Dr V . I really do hope two things for you :-
i) That your ICD implant goes well. Please let us know
ii) That you get your kidney transplant sooner rather than later
I'm sure that it won't help you at all but I have a friend on haemodialysis who has a PM ( rather than an ICD ) and he has been told that having a PM is no reason for not having kidney transplant surgery. As to whether it will affect your place in the queue, it shouldn't, but what does the nephrologist say ?
I'm sure you are well aware that haemodialysis can cause cardiac arrythmias and ventricular tachycardias so having the ICD must be re-assuring for you until you get that transplant.
I do hope that someone with direct experience of your situation comes forward and
Very Best of luck
Ian
