False chocks

I received an ICD on 2/28/08, my device is a Sorin Dual (ICD and Pacemaker . I've received 7 kicks or shocks since it's implantation; all on point, or each time I would have gone into Cardiac arrest or some other trauma, that may have caused death. false shocks are rare I was told, each time you are shocked mark your calender with a heart..your life was saved. there are no warnings, which is why most of us are considered disabled. Do not fear, relax, getting upset only causes anxiety, laugh..a lot enjoy your life..you will live longer than you imagine, exercise, take care of yourselves!! Large magnets an such, would have to lay on your chest, they would have to be very large, they would shut the device off, it would depend on how severely you rely on the device, but it shutting off will not cause death, you'd get weak, it has to shut off if you change the batteries! then it's monitored by a Tech pro. Relax live your lives!! I was asked to retire from my job..I complied..initially..i'm now self employed and Playing music, travelling, doing all the things i've always wanted to do. Medtronic devices have had a lot of issues,Sorins are relatively a new MFG..usually smaller.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
