New and a bit worried
Hi, have an CRT-D implanted close to 6 weeks ago. I am on 25 mg metoprolol er and 25 mg Losartan. I am having wheezing and coughing and a rash around my ankles and legs. The cardiologist says it is my asthma and the ENT says its the heart meds. At present there is lots of pollen out but before the defibulator and Losartan meds l could control with asthma meds. Has anyone else had side effects from these meds. Before the defibulator l was on Carvedilol 3.125 twice a day. I see the Cardiologist tomorrow and wonder if l should ask to go back on Carvedilol. I am told my meds are very low dosage and need them for the rest of my life which l was not aware of and wonder why. My EF is 30. Had mitral valve repair and maze on left side and ablation in right atrail in January. Would appreciate feedback on wheezing. My lungs sound like there is fluid building. Thanks for any help l can read about.

I have looked up the side effects of both meds but the Cardiologist says l am on a low dose and have to have them. I guess he wants me to not complain and just take them. He also felt it could be asthma related but l don't.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your thoughts. Makes sense about two meds at once. More talking to the doctor.

....react to a med? Unless you have a known history of allergic reaction to it or some other member of the same family there is no way to predict.
My Wife is allergic to sulfa drugs. Turns out she is also allergic to just about any med w/ sulfur in it - like diuretics.
Beyond that, exactly HOW sensitive you are to a med is problematic. Some are more sensitive than others.
I'd say that your Cardio pooh-poohing your probable bad side reaction to Metoprolol is a bit of wishful thinking on his part.
FURTHER!!!! You started TWO new meds at the same time. Who knows which one is causing the problem - or is it the combination?
NEVER start two meds at the same time. Start w/ ONE, then after a week or so, add the second one to the mix. That way, you can sort out the reactions w/ a bit of reliability.
I've never heard of asthma causing itchy ankles - do I live under a rock on the far southwest corner of my rural county - or is this something new?

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
Why don't you Google.....

..... "Metoprolol side effects" & see where coughing & swollen ankles come up? You might be surprised. Your Cardio might be even more surprised.
