Just a hello from a new member of the club!
Hello everyone! I am new here. I have something called Brugada's syndrome. I was diagnosed with it last august and then 6 days later I had an ICD put in. My heart had stopped a total of 3 times before the ICD was put in. I am grateful to be alive and am happy. I have a lot of anxiety over this ICD, though. I'm happy there are things like this though to talk to others with the same issue. Glad to be a part of this group!

Audible Alarm Option

When I got my first ICD in 2004, I felt just like you described, like I was tentatively getting out of bed, walking around like I could get wapped any second. Very normal. One thing that helped me was having them turn on the audible alarm in my device (Medtronic) that will beep if the device senses it needs to deliver a shock. I suspect the other two manufacturers (Boston Scientific and St. Jude) also have this option. For me, no beeps = no worries. If it beeps, I have a chance to lay down, pull over, breathe, pray... much better choice for me.
Your ICD is your best friend, always looking out for you, ready to save your life. Choose to think of it as your friend, and gradually it will feel less strange.
