Still have bradycardia after pace maker

So my pulse rate is in the low 40's and it worries me! I thought that my pulse rate would be more normal I just moved and do not have a new cardiologist yet. it just seems to me that a pulse rate of 44 is low for someone with a pace maker?

Anyone have a similar situation??

44 does seem low

I would find a cardiologist and see what's going on. I have a Medtronic Adapta and my low number is set at 60. Hopefully for your situation it would be a matter of just making some adjustments to the pacemaker.

How do you feel ?

is quite an important question ! If you have normal energy levels and no symptoms from your low HR then it MAY be right for you .

What was your normal resting HR before you had a pacemaker ?

Like Paul ( from Sydney ) I had mine raised from 50 to 55 because I felt very tired in the evenings .I was surprised at the big difference it made to my energy levels.

If it concerns you then see a cardiologist !

As a general observation I think there is a danger that perfectly healthy people can become obsessed by numbers . I envy people who haven't a clue about their cholesterol / HR /BP / blood sugar levels etc and DON'T CARE ! I have many friends in their eighties who come into that category !!!!

There are many athletes with resting heart rates in the forties; I often wonder what treatments some numbers-driven doctors would inflict on them. ( end of rant ; have a word with your Dr if you need to put your mind at rest ! )

Cheers

Ian

I'll second Ian's question, how do you feel? If you feel fine, don't worry about it. When in doubt, call and ask to be seen.

Another question to ask

by KAG - 2014-07-31 12:07:56

is what is your PM's lower rate set to? The PM will not let you go below that rate. If you're measuring a HR lower than that it's most likely how you're measuring your HR.

I agree with Ian and Tracey, if you feel fine then your settings are right for you. If not then you probably need a tweak. To help you understand what your PM is doing get a copy of your PM's interrogation report. You can then ask specific questions here.

My cardiologist is brilliant and after lots of trial and error got me running. I finished this years London Marathon in 3hrs 38 minutes.
