Life of Batteries

Hi all,
I just went into my 3 month check up after getting the pacemaker. How accurate are the readings for the battery life? My first PM reading showed that I was using the PM at about 7% and now its showing about 4%. The first reading I had said the battery life would be about 15 years and now it's saying 14 years, even when not working as much. So I was just wondering how accurate they are when they give out the battery's life.
Thanks

Battery Life.....

.....varies with a lot of variables. How often you get paced, lead resistance, et al. It is only an estimate, based on experience factors.

What you want to see, rather than the battery life is HOW it steps down with time over the years. If it steps down a month of prediction for every month of real time, you are in god shape.

Mine, a plain old vanilla dual chamber Medtronic did just that & at the end, missed the going into "EOL" state by three days in its prediction. It predicted a Tues & actually did it on the preceding Sat. Not too shabby, considering it had been predicting that days for several yrs.

Once it settled in, it was stepping down a month of prediction for every month of real time & it did that till the end.

not accurate

As Don said, lots of factors affect how long the battery will last. Even taking all the factors into account, it's still just a guess. At the beginning they are still making adjustments, and every adjustment affects the estimated life. I don't pay much attention until it gets down to the last year or two. Even at that point, it's still a guess. I've had it say 12-18 months for two years, another time we thought about 12 months but it barely lasted 3. I'm on my 4th. Changes are super easy, it really doesn't matter much in the long run if you get a few extra months or not.

Thanks
