new to ICDs
Hello, I just was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and possible future VF. Doctor told me that I need an ICD. He also told me that I have two choices: traditional ICD and new S-ICD. It seems that both have cons and pros. The new S-ICD has 80 jolts and it can't be adjust to lower jolts, like traditional ICDs. But doctor said that if I will be hit with 30 or 80 jolts the painful experience will be the same. Does anyone knows if it is true? 30 vs 80 is a big difference.
Does anyone has S-ICD device on this forum? Does regular ICD cause many issues? I am 40 years old and that is why doctor said that S-ICD might be better for me, so I don't have to change leads all the time. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

S-ICD's

Last I read the S-ICD's were not yet capable of pacing or resynchronizing but can shock you when it detects SCA. Has that changed?
It gets implanted under the skin. There is 1 lead but that also is just under the skin.
I believe the higher jolt is necessary because the wires are not placed in the heart as with the traditional ICD so more "juice" is needed to jump start the heart.
I'm sure others will chime in who know much more than I.
We're all different so some may have problems with their ICD's while others do not.
Good luck with your decision.
