My main heart doctor is at Vanderbilt which is 4 hours from me. I have a rare genetic heart problem and that's why I have to go to Vanderbilt. I have another doctor local that does checks every so often just so I don't have to drive 4 hours for a check. I went the other day to my local doctor and he told me my battery only had 8 months left. I have an appt in July at Vanderbilt which is 5 months away. I called them to let them know I only had 8 months left and they said it was ok to wait until July. They tell me I have some kind of an alert that will let them know when I have 6 months left. I'm pacing 80% of the time. My local doctor tells me if I only have 8 months left I should have it changed in 5 months or sooner since I'm pacing so much. Now I'm confused as to which doctor to listen to. What has been your experience on when you get your PM changed? I've never had to have mine changed before.

Listen to your heart specialists. Your regular Dr may be very good, but he or she is not a pacemaker cardiologist. I understand your concern as I am 2 1/2 hours from my cardiologist. I do my checks by phone and have been on a monthly check since Oct. I am scheduled to have mine done the first week of March. Listen to Angry Sparrow's advice. I've only been on this site for a very short time, but have read a lot of intelligent information. My advice would be to not worry.
