I did my first scheduled download on Tuesday. Dr's office called and said that everything was good. I asked what was the percentage that the pacemaker was kicking in was. She said 85.6% a-pace. Does anyone know what that means? I think, since I was at 20% during my in office follow-up, that it may be that I am pacing at 85.6% and the pacemaker is pacing the remaining percentage. Not sure.

Pacing

The pacing rate is the percent of heart beats that are initiated by your pacemaker. In my case, my heart rate was falling way below 60 ( bradycardia) so, when my PM was implanted and the low heart rate was set at 60, my atrial pacing is at 78.8 percent and my ventricular pacing is at 1 percent. That means 78.8 percent of my heart beats are pacemaker generated. If my PM was set to not kick in until my HR falls below 50, my PM would not pace as frequently, but I would probably feel tired as a result. I am guessing, in your case, that 85.8 % A-pace is referring to atrial pacing as opposed to ventricular pacing. Not to worry, it's how you feel that is important. At my pacing rate, the anticipated battery life is approximately 8 years.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
