Oops

Hello, I had a pacemaker installed on Thursday and all is well. However, I tripped going up the stairs and caught myself on my hands... What are the chances that I dislodged something? I didn't land very hard but I don't know how much it takes.

Unless you've got very sharp pains somewhere, I wouldn't get too worried. You might be sore for the next couple of days but if no swelling, or the PM incision doesn't turn really red, I still wouldn't get too worried.

They had re-separated my right shoulder doing CPR. Then implanted the PM on the left side. Rehab tech said I wasn't supposed to use my left arm to pull myself up. Told him I had run out of options. So I frequently used my left arm to pull myself up in spite of the warnings. No problems.

Pulling is worse on the PM wound than pushing. What you did was pushing, so you may have not stretched the scar tissue in the PM pocket.

They tell you not to do anything strenuous because of the PM wound. If they didn't say that, people would go out and do something that would tear open the wound. Open wound, chance of bad infection. Need to remove PM and re-implant. Not a good thing. So telling you to keep quiet gives you time for the wound to heal.

Previous discussions on the forum is that you would need to be in a serious car accident to even pull the PM leads. And, if that happened, you'd have a lot more problems than just the pulled leads.

Cold, dry compresses over the PM wound bandage. Use tylenol.
