First 1/2 marathon

Super excited because I am doing my first 1/2 marathon race tomorrow since getting my pace maker on 1 December 2015. Might not be the fastest one I've run but I'm so grateful to even be able to do it especially in beautiful Jasper, Alberta, Canada. Wish me luck :)

I am REALLY interested to know how you get on as I am a lifelong runner and have run many half and full marathons prior to getting a PM but I also seem to have identical health issues to yourself.

I have the same Medtronic PM as you, I also have Sick Sinus Syndrome and have RR switched on but have really struggled with long runs since becoming bionic. You are the first person I've seen on here with that combination who is doing a distance run .

If you do well, you will inspire me to get my PM settings altered again !!

I live in the UK but have been to Jasper . I once drove from Winnipeg to Vancouver and stopped in Jasper so I know how beautiful it is ; could be a hilly run though ?

Please report back when you have got over it.

It was a tough run. I had. Hard time coping with the results. 2:08 when I am used to 1:49 so I had a little bit on an emotional day. Maybe in time it will get better

Great ! you did it .

Well done , 13 miles is a long way .Just think if you pulled 100 people off the street, how many of them could even attempt to run a half marathon ? How many could run it in 2.08 ?

If you took 100 people from the PM club , how many of them could even run a couple of miles ? I wish I could persuade my Medtronic A3DR01 to help my legs do it in the times I used to do , in fact 2.08 would make me happy.

I know how you are feeling though; " Is this as good as it gets ? " and other negative emotions like that. But there are variables that you can influence such as the PM settings and your training.

I believe that you have SSS and are " chronotropically incompetent " so you need rate response . If this is the case then there may still be scope to further optimise the settings. Your last sentence says it all, keep thinking that way, because it WILL get better !

well done again

.....Your result was just great and you are a PM Club inspiration.

...IAN and I have long seen a link between running performance and PM devices..its a kind of 'count your blessings' scenario.

..If its any consolation you are still out there in your trainers...so many are not / cannot..

..Its a lovely Sunday morning here in the UK and I may well nip out for a few miles myself,..having been encouraged by your good self.

Take care and..Well Done !!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. Reading your comments does make me think about seeing more of the positive things instead of dwelling on the negative. This is something I need to work on. I'm very lucky to be able to still do what many can't.

WELL DONE

Well done on your run. !!!!!

Impressive!

Well done! I'm really impressed with your time especially after implant which wasn't that long ago.. I too used to do around 1.49 half marathons but haven't even got up to that mileage since my pm which was fitted in Oct 2013. The most I have done are 10ks and I do the Park run which is a 5k run on a regular basis. You have encouraged me to get going and start building my mileage back up again! Good luck to anyone doing the London marathon this weekend - I shall be watching!

Well done on your race. What program did you follow to build up to your run.

You know you're wired when...

You make store alarms beep.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
