Theme Parks

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has been on the thriller rides (big ones) with their Pacemaker. I am a 17 year old who is a big theme park fan and loves going on the rides so much. I have recently tweeted Alton Towers about going on the rides and they said The Smiler, Rita, SubTerror and Thirteen are a big no no, but all the others are at my own risk. A family friend has now emailed both Thorpe Park and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The Pleasure Beach has basically said all the rights apart from the big ones like Pepsi Max are at own risk. But Thorpe Park has said ALL rides there are a big big NO. I am really upset about this as I was planning on going sometime this year. So I was wondering if anyone has be Thorpe Park with a pacemaker or any other places like Drayton Manor or Disney Land/Disney World.

That's the insurance companies talking! Most of them have no idea what's safe for us. The newer rides with magnetic brakes are not a good idea. If you pace with rate response, bumpy rides will make your rate go up. Not dangerous, just be aware that's what it is when it happens. You don't want a harness sitting directly on your device. Won't hurt the device but will bruise you. Other than that, have fun. I've been paced 20+ years. I live in FL so over the years have had annual passes to both Disney and Universal. There's very little I don't go on, and most of the ones I avoid aren't because I can't, it's because I don't want to.

I went on ALL the big rides at Chicago's 6 Flags over Mid-America last summer with no problems and my doc's permission. I did not tell them I had a pacemaker. My only suggestion is to wait at least 6 months. I went to a small local amusement park not quite 6 months after my implant and all the bumping and jarring caused some discomfort, but not really pain. I had no trouble this past year. Good luck to you. When I was told I needed a pacer that was the first questions I asked my doc.

Hi I'm 26 years old. I'm on my second model. I frequently go to Alton towers. I have been on smiler several times and not once suffered any complications.. I've also been Thorpe park Disney land and Drayton manor when I had my very first pacemaker put it... my advice is, it is always at your own risk and do some research on the rides you want to go on etc.. the big no no rides should and most likely have a pacemaker warning like nemesis Sub terror at Alton towers... I always go on a slow ride first then pick up the pace.

I asked my Dr. and he said roller coasters and such are ok. but just make sure the shoulder straps or harness does not directly contact your pacemaker. I have been on them at Disneyland even screamer. great ride. No problems. Also some others. I just don't mention the fact I have a pacer. But be sure and follow your DRS. orders.

Thanks everyone.
At my last check up I asked my doctor about it and he said it was fine to go on rides after the 6 months. I was very happy for this to be confirmed as this was may first question I asked before and after having my pacemaker fitted. I will definitely take note of what the Theme Parks have said but not going to let it hold me back too much. Knowing that some of you have gone on rides without trouble as made me feel more confident about trying them again. Thanks a lot.
