Concerns

hello,
I am a new member. I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure about 4 years ago. Since then, my heart function has dropped drastically. I've been place on additional medication, but my doctor has recommended that a ICD be put into place. I am so so scared. Any advice..my main concern is the shocks that I may have, any comments would be appreciated.

fear

As Artist pointed out, the fear is not what the icd would do, but what can happen to you without it. Everyone hopes to never need it, but they save lives. Think of it as an insurance policy, a safety net.

Please Consider This

An ICD can virtually save your life. With your history, I would be more concerned about the possibility of dying than the possibility of experiencing a life saving shock that can restart your heart. There are alot of PM Club members with ICDs that live active and full lives and are very grateful that this wonderful technology exists. It is an emotional adjustment and you have come to the right place to receive support, encouragement and good information. I expect that you will receive some wonderful responses from Club Members that have lived with their ICDs for many years. Go for it! Best wishes.

I Understand

The thought can be scary. But as the others said, you have to put it in perspective and not worry about it. If it's gonna fire, it's to save your life.

I have a device with a defib and have not been shocked yet and it's been 7 years. My heart function has improved greatly. After awhile you won't even think about it.

I didn't know anyone who had a device or about this site at the time of my implant. Learn about your condition and device to help ease your mind. If you have any questions or need to chat, feel free to private message me through this site if you like.

I'd offer more but there wasn't much in your Bio to go on. Let me know what you decide. The way I looked at it....I really didn't have a choice.

Do feel free to contact the manufacturer of your device. I have found them to be quite helpful when I have had questions and concerns.
