Hello all, I wanted to introduce myself. I have had a pacemaker since March of 2008 and a defib since Jan 2009. I just had my batter/gen change done on Wednesday and since I feel so much better. Its hard to explain but I don't have shaky legs, I don't get bobble headed.. My mind feels more clear and I have more focus. I was wondering if anyone else had this feeling after a battery change. I been feeling pretty bad overall the last 3-4 months and overnight I am doing like I was 4 months ago which was basically living a normal life. Thanks so much for your comments.

I have been in constant contact with my EP although he is new to my care in December as I relocated. I spent a few times in the hospital the past few months and I know for sure they settings of heart rate didn't change as I am set on 60 bpm which it stays at most of the time. I am on demand pacing with a ICD, I felt like I was decaying since December and they thought they would replace it in Jan. Although my battery didn't start beeping until early March. Glad to know your feeling better as well.
I explained the feeling as I felt like Iron man when he changed his power cell and seemed to be refreshed. I plan on asking them on my check up end of the week for my incision check. But hopefully this continues to be how I feel. I agree another 7-10 years before replacing again.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.

If your battery was in the replacement mode before getting your PM replaced, chances are your PM switched to "END OF LIFE" mode which in my case set my heart rate to 65 bpm ---no more/no less. In the final week before my replacement I could really feel my body wearing down and after the replacement I was back to normal. Obviously, when the ticker ain't ticking fast enough to supply our body with oxygenated blood. it starts to take it's toll. Your PM lasted about the same number of months as mine and I felt like someone increased a dimmer switch from low to high after replacement. Sounds to me that you probably were a candidate for replacement much sooner. My cardiologist, electrophysiologist and Medtronic technician were on top of my condition early on, so I really did not experience a very long period of extreme fatigue. You should be in good shape for another 8 to 10 years.
Good Luck,
Rodger
