Hi all, Am newcomer in this forum and hope I am right here.
Got my pacemaker about a month ago. Doctors told me to avoid stretching my arms over my head.
Have to wait about six weeks until I can go swimming . I love to do the breaststroke style.
Am I allowed to stretch out my arms over my head with this style ?
Thank you for reading and any help

Breast Stroke swimming

Hi Jacpra,
I'm a retired Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer and Lifeguard Instructor Trainer. The breast stroke is my very favorite. I had a Boston Scientific CRT-D device implanted in Feb 2015 and an ablation in Oct 2015. I waited the required amount of time after the implant and ablation to lift my arms. I now exercise, swim (especially the breast stroke) with no problems at all. Just be sure you get cleared by your EP for any exercise. My EP sent me to cardiac rehab for three months and they pretty much got me back into my programs with no problems. I work out on the treadmill, NuStep and elliptical trainer and swim. As soon as you get clearance from your EP go for it. .I'll be 86 this year and hope I can keep swimming for a long, long time. Good luck.
Important to wait

Please be patient! I know it's hard, as I had my pm put in exactly 3 months ago. But trust us all here and don't take any chances. You really don't want any problems with your new leads. That would "suck". Every thing has to heal really well. Good Luck!

Leads need to settle
by Bostonbionic - 2016-06-23 15:37:05
Hi there. Just be patience as there is a reason why you shouldn't raise your arm it gives the leads time to bed into your veins and heart. They do put extra slack for when you do stretch. When you have your checks they will know if your leads are fine. Worse thing you want is displacement leads. As for breast stroke it's not taking your arm above your head but be careful at this stage stretching them to far forward. Also your chest may feel sore from the implant and this muscle needs to heal too. I personally would wait until 10 weeks just to be on the safe side. Hope that helps.
