I am about to have pacer surgery (an upgrade), and I also climb at a local rock-climbing gym (nothing too difficult, top belayed).
How much time do I need to take off, post-surgery, to recover for climbing again?

new lead?

If you are getting a new lead, then 6-8 weeks. If you are just getting a replacement device but not new leads, 4 weeks is what I was told. I got #5 in Feb, felt great and was chomping at the bit to get back to the gym within a week but my surgeon said give it 4 weeks for the incision to heal fully and not be an infection risk. I feel like that was overkill but infections are scary and gyms are full of germs so I was a good girl and followed instructions.

Do feel free to contact the manufacturer of your device. I have found them to be quite helpful when I have had questions and concerns.

The amount of time to take-off is up to your doc, but practically speaking it should be at least 1-2 months. Could be much sooner, but it depends to some extent how you feel. You also need to ease back into it for safety sake.
