Running watch that records pulse

Hi there. I am posting from the uk. I am thinking of buying a new running watch but want one that records my pulse from my wrist , not a chest strap. I'm thinking of the tom tom , I don't want it massively technicol . I'm looking for speed distance and pulse . Does any one have any ideas?

My pasemaker is a boston proponent and I'm pretty new to the whole pacemaker community , and still unsure about mostly everything !

Running watch

Just got a Fitbit 2 weeks ago and it gives you HR, steps, sleep monitoring and other fitness info.   It also connects to android and Apple phone/iPad and gives you graphs showing daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring of these things.   I am 6 weeks with a PM and the Fitbit watch. Seems to be a good aid in  helping me know what is going on.

try before you buy

I've never found any type of hrm that works for me with the pacer. Some catch the pacing spikes as well as the beats and show a number too high. Others get interference from the pacer and don't give a reading.

FitBit HR

I got a fitbit HR last year when I first became aware of my bradycardia.  It seems to work just fine after having my pacemaker put in a few weeks ago.  I haven't done any real exercise yet since the surgery though.  I use it to track my sleep and my weight loss too, it has a lot of neat little tools.

heart rate with PM

I use a fingertip pulse Oximeter that give HR and O2. Nothing else I tried gives a accurate reading.

FitBit HR

I used a FitBit (the Surge model) for over a year.  I should mention that I have an ICD and not routinely paced.  In my experience, the FitBit did a good job of recording my heart rate (HR) over the entire day.  Some times when I was doing my exercise walks my arm would get sweaty and the reading would stop.  When I saw that happen I simply took the device off, wiped it and my wrist and put it back on.

I found it very helpful in determining my "limits" during exercise.  For a while I was getting sick when pushing too hard.  It would come on quickly and I was already there before I realized it.  With the FitBit I learned where my limits were and learned to better understand when I was approaching that point.

I have since switched to the Apple Watch, but the new FitBit model, the Blaze, looks very interesting.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works well for you.

Seconded.

I recently got a FitBit Charge HR. I really like it for many of the reasons others have cited, and it is helping me to understand my limits when working out, just as someone else has already said. I have found that it doesn't work as well when I sweat, but it does work well enough that I generally know what my heart's doing while exercising.

Garmin ForeRunner 225

Love my Garmin 225 exactly for that reason - No more chest straps!!
I wear it for jogging and cycling, and in the gym. Didn't use Garmin Connect with my older model (310XT), but do now and am getting used to it also.

Thanks for all your advice

thanks for all your help and advice guys

i still haven't got one ! But have tried a few the best 3 on me seem to be the garmin fore runner , the tom tom heart. And the fit bit blaze , they all have their moments of madness but appear to be mostly accurate . Just got to decide which one to buy now

Tom Tom

This may be a little late but

I have the Tom Tom GPS Watch (having had the garmin forerunner 210 beforehand with HR strap). It has speed, distance and HR from the wrist.

Not exactly certain how accurate the HR readings are but appear as accurate as the garmin strap. There is a website (DR rain maker) that suggests the HR is accurate as it compares readings from other devices (he does not however have a pacemaker although I would suggest this makes no difference in a wrist HR reading).

What I like about the Tom Tom is I have bluetooth headphones connected and have 1500 songs loaded on the Watch. I run with music without carrying a phone - wonderful. It not only covers running but cycling, swimming, indoor activity, I also use it on the golf course. It also has a step tracker with daily and weekly steps

What I don't like is it  impossible to see the time in the dark and I am not a great fan of the big font for the time and there is no option to change the display

Hope this helps

Good luck Paul
