I am scheduled for September 16 for my insertion and I told the ep that I was active. He suggested the biotronic brand would be best for me.
i don't lift heavy anymore. I will be 60 the end of October. After researching the net, I got a lot of mixed reviews regarding upper body exercise
of course I will listen to my doctor. Can anyone who might be close to my age that works out help me understand how long will it be before I can get back on the eliptical and lift weights. Plus what kind of restrictions on different exercises
the reason I am getting the pacemaker is brachycardia
never had any heart issues until end of 2014. Had 2 ablations for pvc's which are now low but my ef never went back up although I feel great.

I'm 69, 70 next month. Got my PM several years ago. I am very active, played tennis last night and participated in a 15 mile kayak challenge Sunday. I lift weights, bike, hike, jet ski, coach soccer and use an elliptical etc.
After 6 weeks i had no restriction but to start out weught lifting and do more reps until I feel comfortable. My doc suggested that if an exercise hurts, don't do it. Lat pull downs did hurt some for a while. Most execises were fine.
My Dr. also suggested the Biotronik because I was so active. He said he has marathoners on it.
Good luck,
Jerry

I am a 60 year old female who runs, lifts, bikes and kick boxes. I received a Medtronic dual chamber PM for bradycardia and sinus node dysfunction on August 16. I rested a few days but since I have been walking 2-5 miles and using my elliptical but taking care not to swing my arms wide or lift them above shoulder level as directed by my doctor. I met with my doc yesterday and was cleared to run as long as arm movements were kept to a minimum. I tried running for a couple of minutes today but felt like the PM was not stable. I am going to wait for another week before I test it again. The doc said I could lift after one month but would still limit shoulder exercises for about six weeks. Same for kickboxing. So far I am feeling great and looking forward to resuming all my previous activities. Best wishes for a speedy recovery after your surgery.
