Wireless gizmos

Hello,

Does anyone have their pacemaker go crazy if cell phone or wireless computer is close?  I notice it go weird and I cough and also if I lean in towards computer it feels like my right breast is being stabbed.  The pacemaker is on that side.  Am I crazy or what?

Electronics

From what I understand it is highly recommended to keep devices 6" away from your pacemaker. I have never felt anything that I associated to using electronics, I still use phones on my ICD side and when I'm laying down using my iPad don't feel anything abnormal, I'm far stricter when using power tools. When your leaning I'm wondering if the pacemaker is causing pressure on the muscle or skin causing the discomfort. Maybe try leaning forward and articulate your arms as if your using the computer but don't have any electronics present. I notice discomfort if I am leaning or hunched and applying pressure (doing something like cutting a squash).

Thanks

Thank you for responding.  I definitely have interference from laptop and cell phone...I can feel it go crazy until I back them away.  You may be right on the muscle thing.  I am a side sleeper and I think I put the pacemaker in a pinched position when I do that.  Thank you for responding!!

Could be something else

Today's pacemakers are pretty well shielded from the sorts of electronic interference you may encounter in any ordinary setting. It's really unusual for cell phones and computers to cause problems.

You know what you feel, but I wonder if you might be misinterpreting the cause. Could you be feeling heart palpitations rather than the pacemaker "going crazy?" Sometimes they will give me a stange little cough. And palpitations certainly will produce skipping, fluttering, galloping, thudding sensations. Uncomfortable, but fortunately they don't last long.

I sometimes have palpitations when on the phone, but the trouble lies with the caller,  not the phone. :-)

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic woman.
